Ch 48: Those who wronged me are now begging me for mercy

You Probably Haven’t Faced the Harsh Realities of Life

The celebrity’s face darkened immediately, as black as the bottom of a pot. But after thinking for a long time, he couldn’t find anything to refute Rong Ziyin’s words.

One reason was that his manager was holding him back, and the other was that he was genuinely scared. After all, even the massive Caucasian Shepherd had been pecked so hard by the geese at Rong Ziyin’s feet that it stood up with its tail tucked between its legs, unable to move. If it had been him, he might have been done for.

On the other hand, the film crew breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that Rong Ziyin was their lucky star, and they thanked him profusely. After all, this was a school, and if something had happened, they wouldn’t have been able to bear the responsibility.

As they continued talking, the director noticed Rong Ziyin’s appearance. He suddenly realized that Rong Ziyin’s looks were surprisingly well-suited for the role of the second male lead in their promotional video. Coincidentally, the director didn’t particularly like the actor currently playing that role, so if Rong Ziyin was willing to act, they could reshoot the scenes with him.

With this thought in mind, he tentatively approached Rong Ziyin with the idea.

To his surprise, Rong Ziyin declined.

“Why?” The director didn’t understand. How many young people these days didn’t want to become famous? If this film turned out well, Rong Ziyin might become an overnight sensation. Who wouldn’t want to be a star instead of just an ordinary worker?

But Rong Ziyin simply pointed at the celebrity. “What’s so good about being a star? Look at Zhu Zijing—no matter how stubborn he is, he still ends up getting beaten.”

The celebrity instinctively touched his right cheek, suddenly recalling the slap his manager had given him in anger when the dog ran off earlier. His cheek was now swollen, but he still wanted to argue back.

“What do you know? Plenty of people like me.”

Rong Ziyin’s tone was calm: “But we have air conditioning when we do research.”

The celebrity looked down at his sweat-soaked clothes, gritting his teeth. “There are people outside my dorm every day, supporting me!”

Rong Ziyin: “I can go out for a walk whenever I want and order takeout as I please.”

The celebrity was left speechless. The thought of not having touched junk food in ages to maintain his figure made him even more miserable. And Rong Ziyin wasn’t done.

Rong Ziyin: “Even if I don’t produce results, I won’t get beaten.”

Finally, unable to bear it anymore, the celebrity played his trump card: “But you researchers don’t have hair!”

Rong Ziyin touched the top of his head: “It’s quite thick, actually. But your hairline, on the other hand, is on the brink of collapse.”

Anger level: 1000

Rong Ziyin’s words hit right on the mark. After all, with the daily late-night filming, there was no way to preserve a hairline. But the worst part was how infuriating Rong Ziyin’s tone was. Zhu Zijing finally experienced what it meant to face a “real dad.” His face turned beet red, and he almost passed out from anger.

System: Master, know when to stop.

Rong Ziyin thought the same. He then signaled for the geese to disperse, tied up the dog, and told the crew to take it away. He also added one more thing, “Large dogs are prohibited within the Fifth Ring of Beijing. I just reported it to the police. They haven’t arrived yet, so when they do, remember to go to the station and pay the fine.”

With that, Rong Ziyin dusted off his hands and left.

The celebrity and the film crew left behind were utterly exasperated. Going to the police station to pay a fine—what era were they living in? The worst part was that if the paparazzi caught wind of this, it would result in a flood of negative press.

The celebrity couldn’t help but complain to his manager, “I told you, nothing good ever happens when we run into him here!”

The manager sighed, “If only you could be more mindful, I wouldn’t be balding so early!”

Once again, the celebrity was dealt a crushing blow, and he squatted down, not wanting to say another word.

Just then, Rong Ziyin’s group of geese came over. They seemed quite interested in the celebrity and were all craning their necks to look at him.

The prop master on the film crew, having overheard some gossip about the Agricultural University, casually remarked, “I heard from some students here that these geese are quite funny—they’re superficial and only like pretty girls and good-looking people.”

So, does that mean they think I’m good-looking and want to get close? The celebrity finally felt a bit comforted. Just as he was about to reach out and pet the snow-white geese, they mercilessly dodged him. In that moment, he even sensed a deep disdain from their cleaver-shaped eyes.

Geese: Disperse, disperse. He’s no match for our handsome dad, hmph~

The flock of geese walked away without a second thought, leaving the celebrity staring at their retreating backs for a long time before finally breaking down in tears.

“I don’t care! I’m quitting the entertainment industry today and going back to inherit my family’s mines!”

The manager affectionately patted the yellow hair on his head. “Sure, I’ll call your dad right now. He’ll be so happy.”

Who would have thought that just because Rong Ziyin got under his skin, the celebrity was so angry that he actually wanted to quit the industry and go back to take over the family business?

However, after cooling down, he realized that running away like that would make him seem incompetent. So, he canceled all his upcoming appearances and stayed at the company to focus on learning. Later, he even went on to pursue a graduate degree in acting, seriously honing his craft.

But Rong Ziyin didn’t pay much attention to these changes. Occasionally, when the system alerted him, he would sigh, “Zhu Zijing really is a devoted man!”

Yes, after all, for ten years, he will be consistently offering Rong Ziyin emotional coins, but this is all in the future.

Nevertheless, the celebrity’s choices didn’t have much of an impact on the students at Agricultural University. The busy graduation season made their lives even more hectic, especially with the thesis defenses approaching, and many of those who had been interning off-campus were returning.

Among them was the person who had gone to the village’s livestock station in place of Rong Ziyin.

Unlike others who returned empty-handed, this person came back with bags and bags of things, so much that he needed two roommates to help him carry everything.

“Why did you bring so much stuff back?” The roommates were dumbfounded as they looked at the pile of bags.

“Don’t even ask! The top student is too popular. When the villagers heard I was returning to school, they all sent food to the livestock station. The village head even had someone drive me to the bus station; otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to make it back.”

“Wow! No wonder he’s the top student! Truly impressive!”

“Exactly! Where’s Rong Ziyin? I need to drop this off with him, and I’ll ask him to help me with my thesis while I’m at it. You guys are terrible! You asked the top student for tutoring and didn’t even invite me!”

The roommate replied earnestly, “What’s the big deal? There are four people in your group, right? You can discuss it together!”

“Discuss? Are you kidding me? When one bad student explains to another, one dares to teach, and the other dares to listen?”

With that, the group finally reached the dormitory.

Rong Ziyin happened to be returning from outside and ran into them.

Then he was buried under two large bags of food. When he opened them, he found all sorts of delicious, ready-to-eat dishes.

There was slow-cooked candied pork knuckle, crispy fried river shrimp, a pot of braised beef, a plate of sliced homemade sausage, and an assortment of side dishes—just enough for a full table.

It was summer, and there was no way Rong Ziyin could finish all this food by himself in a week, so most of it would go to waste. So, he simply shouted down the hallway, calling everyone back for a gathering tonight.

“Wow! Long live the top student!” The one who had just returned was the first to cheer.

Having lived in the village for two months, he knew how delicious these hearty dishes were, especially the stewed ones. He eagerly suggested, “Let’s go to the cafeteria and buy some steamed buns!”

“Beer! We need beer too!”

“Yes! Let’s drink until we drop!”

In no time, people were gathering, setting up tables, and the hallway buzzed with activity. Rong Ziyin, finding the scene quite lively, decided to help by moving some chairs.

In about half an hour, everyone was back, each finding a place to sit. They clinked their icy beers together, downed a glass, and then started grabbing food.

During the four years of university, the vet department had hosted plenty of gatherings, but this was the first time Rong Ziyin had joined in.

In the past, people didn’t know him well and didn’t dare to talk to him. But now that they were more familiar, the barriers were down, and they insisted on getting him to drink.

Rong Ziyin didn’t refuse; he downed four or five bottles of beer without turning red, while the ones trying to get him drunk were already seeing double.

The guy who had replaced Rong Ziyin during the internship was already quite tipsy and sat beside Rong Ziyin, bantering with him.

“I gotta say… Rong, you’re amazing. The village practically worships you as a deity now!”

“Really?” The others quickly asked.

That guy, happy to finally have an audience, launched into a detailed account of all of Rong Ziyin’s feats in the village.

“They all say that Dr. Rong can shoot lightning from his eyes—he’s awesome~”

Rong Ziyin: …So how did this rumor even start?

The problem was that half the people at the table were already tipsy and insisted on discussing how exactly Rong Ziyin could shoot lightning from his eyes.

After thinking for a moment, Rong Ziyin said, “Maybe they’re referring to how quickly I perform neutering surgeries!”

Everyone: ???

Rong Ziyin: “Usually, it takes me three minutes to neuter one pig, five minutes for two. Less than five minutes for a sheep, and about ten minutes to stitch up a cow.”

Everyone: So…

Rong Ziyin: “Pretty quick, like lightning, don’t you think?”

Everyone: …

Confusion level: 10000

However, the leader of the group patted Rong Ziyin on the shoulder and said, “Top student, let’s switch to the next topic. All this talk about eggs is too horrifying!”

Rong Ziyin had no objections and quickly moved the conversation to another topic.

The meal went on until 10:30 PM, and the lingering aroma in the hallway once again dealt a deadly blow to the brothers from the mechanical engineering department.

However, considering Rong Ziyin’s presence—the most cunning of them all—they ultimately decided not to retaliate with the long-forgotten stinky tofu. Instead, they quietly chewed on their instant noodles, enduring a lonely and drawn-out night.

But Rong Ziyin encountered a small problem.

There were a bit too many goose eggs.

One hundred ninety-nine goose eggs—if all of them hatched, the space needed for raising them would be significant. The veterinary department clearly didn’t have that much room.

Just then, Rong Ziyin received a text message from Yao Lele.

“Rong the Dog, a friend of mine is asking if your geese are for sale?”

Selling geese? Rong Ziyin didn’t understand at first. After asking for clarification, he learned that some of the students at the school had taken a liking to the geese.

They were cute, knew how to act adorable, and could even recognize people and guard houses. When you think about it, raising a goose wasn’t such a bad idea.

As he was worrying about having too many eggs, Rong Ziyin received this message and immediately began considering the possibility of selling the goose eggs.

So that evening, all of Rong Ziyin’s contacts on WeChat saw this message in their Moments feed:

“Anhui White Goose fertilized eggs, one hundred yuan each, 100% hatch rate, the perfect pet for real men. Their snowy white feathers will heal your barren soul.”

The accompanying image was of a bald cartoon character, expressionless, gently patting its belly, with the caption above its head reading, “Be kind to me, there’s a child here that belongs to you!”
