Ch 72: The Malevolent Monster Just Wants To Farm

Meanwhile, the little lord Zong himself hadn’t realized that this time, in his quest to find Jiang Lin, he had indeed caused quite a stir.

He has a rebellious and carefree nature, and upon arriving in this world, he sensed where Jiang Lin was and didn’t care what kind of Heavenly Court this was—he just barged right in.

—Naturally, he was promptly stopped by the divine guards at the Heavenly Gate.

In fact, even earlier, when Zong Yu first entered the jurisdiction of the Heavenly Court, his presence was immediately detected.

The aura of Chaos.

Nowadays, most of the gods and demons born from the Chaos have long since perished. The few that remain are either in deep slumber, only to be awakened by a great calamity, or they have become rulers in their own right, residing in hidden paradises, beyond the control of the Five Heavenly Courts.

Who would expect a powerful god or demon to visit the Heavenly Court?

The Heavenly Emperor, being very cautious, dispatched several Great Immortals under his command to investigate the situation.

And then…

They encountered Zong Yu.

A Chaos-born god or demon, and still a minor?

This was no small matter!

The Chaos had long since disappeared, and most of the Chaos-born gods and demons had perished. The few that remained were ancient beings, as old as the heavens and the earth.

So where did this young… little one come from?

The Heavenly Emperor of the Central Heavenly Court, being a deity from that era, saw Zong Yu’s appearance and pondered deeply, suspecting it might be a warning from the Dao itself. He approached Zong Yu with great caution.

Surrounded by a group of deities, Zong Yu was questioned but only stated that he was here to find Jiang Lin.

Jiang Lin?

There was no deity named Jiang Lin in the Heavenly Court.

When Zong Yu saw that these figures couldn’t answer him and didn’t intend to fight, he simply ignored them and followed the guidance of his soul contract, heading straight for the Ninth Heaven.

This mysterious figure walked on, with the divine soldiers not daring to attack, yet unable to let him wander freely. They had no choice but to follow him closely, fearing he might intrude into some forbidden area.

Thus, a massive entourage of divine soldiers and generals followed Zong Yu, crossing the Milky Way and arriving at the Ninth Heaven.

As this mighty procession approached, Qingfeng and Qingyue were in the Immortal Palace, gathering vegetables.

They hurried out, only to see the sky filled with divine soldiers, occupying most of the heavens, leaving them utterly terrified.

Jiang Lin was examining the small budding lotus leaves emerging in the Milky Way, frowning as he stood up.

Huaiyin, Qingluo, and Xiao Pu instinctively stood by Jiang Lin’s side, ready for battle.

—It wasn’t that they were overthinking things; the commotion truly resembled a major operation to apprehend some heinous criminal.

But as the divine soldiers drew closer, Huaiyin and Qingluo were stunned—why did the person flying in front of these soldiers look so familiar?

Isn’t that Lord Zong… their accomplice?

Zong Yu, of course, saw them too.

He was delighted and suddenly sped up, transforming into a streak of light and landing in front of Jiang Lin.

“This time I’m pretty early, right?” He wore an expression seeking praise. “I didn’t waste any time.”

Jiang Lin nodded. “Yes, you’re quite early. Just in time for the first harvest. But…”

He pointed to the divine soldiers standing still behind Zong Yu, who seemed a bit bewildered themselves. “What’s going on here?”

Zong Yu frowned even more deeply. “I don’t know either. I came to find you, and somehow ended up in this Heavenly Court. These guys surrounded me, didn’t fight, and just followed me. Are gods always this weird?”

Jiang Lin was also surprised and looked at Zong Yu with a probing gaze. From what he remembered of Immortal Lord Liu, this Central Heavenly Court had always been domineering and wasn’t known for being reasonable.

Given how Zong Yu barged in, it would be impossible not to apprehend him. So, it’s more likely that there’s something about him that made them hesitant.

As he was puzzling over this, the leading divine general finally snapped out of his reverie after taking in the scene. Recognizing a familiar deity, he seemed to breathe a sigh of relief and approached Jiang Lin to greet him, “Immortal Lord Liu.”

Jiang Lin nodded slightly, “Lord Tianquan.”

His demeanor perfectly matched the aloof persona of Immortal Lord Liu, and Tianquan didn’t suspect anything.

“This…” Tianquan’s expression was filled with confusion. “How did this place end up looking like this?”

He clearly remembered that there was nothing here before.

But now, there was a peach orchard stretching for thousands of feet along the Milky Way, with petals gently falling. Beyond that, a soft, lush green lawn interspersed with various flowers, with small dandelions floating in the wind…

It was completely out of place with the cold and solemn atmosphere of the Ninth Heaven and the Milky Way!

Jiang Lin calmly explained, “I was bored, so I planted some flowers and grass to pass the time.”

Tianquan: “…”

That explanation was rather dismissive.

A trace of disdain flashed in his eyes. As a deity who presides over battle, he had little regard for such soft and frivolous things as flowers and moonlight.

Jiang Lin’s gardening activities were clearly categorized in his mind as “frivolous and useless.”

Jiang Lin, of course, didn’t miss this hint of arrogance and disdain.

He questioned bluntly, “What does Lord Tianquan mean by this? Bringing so many divine soldiers has frightened my flowers and grass.”

Tianquan: “…”

He was Lord Tianquan, a deity of high status and commander of the heavenly soldiers. No one had ever spoken to him so bluntly.

His expression turned cold as he retorted, “This person trespassed through the Heavenly Gate. I am here on official business. If not for that, I wouldn’t bother coming to this desolate place of yours.”

He scrutinized Jiang Lin and asked, “But Immortal Lord, do you know this person…?”

He glanced at Zong Yu, unsure of how to address him.

Sensing that he might have caused trouble for Jiang Lin, Zong Yu was about to say something to smooth things over when Jiang Lin straightforwardly admitted, “He’s here to find me.”

Tianquan was puzzled. “But he said he was looking for someone named Jiang Lin.”

Jiang Lin calmly responded, “I am Jiang Lin.”

Tianquan: “What? But aren’t you called Liu…?”

Jiang Lin retorted, “I’m simply a willow tree in my true form. You all call me Immortal Lord Liu, but has anyone ever asked what my actual name is?”

That statement wasn’t incorrect.

Lord Tianquan then asked, “So, may I ask, what is the relationship between Immortal Lord Liu and this… fellow immortal?”

Jiang Lin looked at him and smiled slightly. “Is that any of your business?”

His expression was cold, as if he was demanding repayment for a debt, questioning Tianquan with a stern face.

Jiang Lin had always been someone who responded in kind—if others showed him respect, he would return it tenfold. Likewise, with Tianquan’s condescending attitude, Jiang Lin couldn’t even be bothered to spare him a glance.

Tianquan’s face changed color with anger. “How dare you!”

“Dare what?” Jiang Lin said calmly. “I achieved the status of Great Luo Golden Immortal upon taking human form. I am a recognized Immortal Lord by heaven and earth.Lord Tianquan, you’re merely a star lord, and you think you have the right to lecture me?”

His robe sleeves fluttered without wind, and a vast surge of immortal power erupted. “Leave!”

Tianquan was utterly shocked. He had never imagined that this Immortal Lord Liu, who had been so obscure and unnoticed in the Heavenly Court, like an invisible deity, would possess such incredible strength!

But then, he should have realized—how could a Great Luo Golden Immortal be weak?

Moreover, Jiang Lin had spent so long as an agricultural god in his previous world, mastering the Nine Spirit Techniques, which made him even more adept at wielding wood-based spiritual power. Now, having merged with the immortal body of Lord Liu, his strength naturally soared to new heights.

Tianquan hastily summoned his divine power to defend himself, retreating several steps before regaining his footing. Compared to Jiang Lin’s calm demeanor, Tianquan looked extremely disheveled.

Feeling humiliated in front of his subordinates, he shouted angrily, “Immortal Lord Liu! I am here under the orders of His Majesty, the Heavenly Emperor, to investigate this fellow immortal. Your attitude—are you defying orders?”

“Enough of your nonsense!” Zong Yu, who had just come to terms with his feelings and was already deeply troubled, couldn’t stand seeing this man being rude to Jiang Lin. Naturally, he couldn’t tolerate it.

He rushed forward and punched Tianquan back into the crowd of heavenly soldiers.

Jiang Lin: “…”

He looked at Zong Yu with a complex expression, a hint of envy in his tone. “Your strength has improved a bit too quickly, don’t you think?”

Zong Yu replied modestly, “It’s not bad.”

Meanwhile, Lord Tianquan was seething with anger. He ordered his subordinates to stand guard while he returned to report to his superiors.

As Tianquan retreated, Zong Yu watched his back and asked coldly, “That guy is really annoying. Should I stop him?”

Jiang Lin shook his head, looking at Zong Yu curiously. “Don’t you find his behavior strange? With Lord Tianquan’s usual domineering attitude, he should have already ordered the heavenly soldiers to attack by now. Yet, he held back.”

He stroked his chin thoughtfully. “I have a feeling this has something to do with your identity.”

“Could it be that someone in this world knows your true identity?”

He had expected Zong Yu to be curious or even excited after hearing this.

But to his surprise, Zong Yu showed no reaction at all.

Jiang Lin: “?”

Zong Yu then said, “I was just about to tell you—I’ve received a bit more of my inherited memories, and now I know what my true form is.”

Jiang Lin was momentarily stunned but then quickly smiled with joy. “Congratulations, Xiao Zong.”

Having been friends with Zong Yu for so many years, Jiang Lin naturally knew how much this meant to him.

Zong Yu looked at him and asked, “Have you ever heard of… the Taotie?”
