Ch 71: The Malevolent Monster Just Wants To Farm

“I…” The Weaver Girl stood there, stunned by Jiang Lin’s words, finding herself momentarily speechless.

She turned around to look at the palace before her.

All of her memories seemed to revolve around this cold and desolate palace, with the loom as her constant companion day and night.

She had woven dazzling clouds to hang in the sky day and night, and crafted beautiful heavenly garments to be handed over to the celestial servants on schedule.

She had always believed that this was her duty.

But now that she thought about it, there wasn’t actually an official divine role of “Weaver Girl” in the heavenly court.

Listening to Jiang Lin’s words, it was as if a cloud had been lifted, and she suddenly realized: Yes, I’ve been weaving these uniquely beautiful cloud tapestries tirelessly—why can’t I wear them myself?

If it were a dream, and if her father saw her adorned in colorful garments, would he have thought twice before dismissing her and marrying her off to a cowherd?

The Weaver Girl’s eyes lit up, as if she had found a new path, and her whole demeanor became more vibrant.

But she hadn’t forgotten who this immortal really was, so she coldly said to Jiang Lin, “Don’t come here anymore.”

Jiang Lin asked, “Why?”

The Weaver Girl replied, “I don’t want to see you, and I don’t want to be friends with you anymore.”

Jiang Lin paused.

If the Weaver Girl had indeed been reborn, given what Immortal Lord Liu had done in the original storyline, she was right to distance herself.

After thinking for a moment, Jiang Lin didn’t dwell on it and simply nodded, “Alright.”

After all, if the Weaver Girl had been reborn and had taken his advice, avoiding the fate she didn’t want was what mattered.

As for himself…

Jiang Lin promised himself not to go anywhere near that Celestial Treasury or Collection Pavilion.

He turned and left without hesitation, and the Weaver Girl didn’t suspect anything. Given Immortal Lord Liu’s solitary nature, it was normal for him to leave after being treated coldly by her.

Jiang Lin retraced his steps from the Weaver Girl’s palace back to his own.

Both palaces were indeed in remote areas. Along the long path, he didn’t encounter a single other immortal.

Immortal Lord Liu’s palace was smaller than the Weaver Girl’s, with two young attendants of delicate appearance.

Jiang Lin glanced at them and realized they were two immortal plants that had taken human form, both with lively personalities. Having likely never left the palace since their birth, they were simple and innocent.

Jiang Lin then released Huaiyin, Qingluo, and Xiao Pu, who had been waiting for a while.

Qingluo had been with him since the apocalyptic world and was fully aware of Jiang Lin’s situation, so she remained calm and composed despite having traveled through many worlds.

Xiao Pu, still in the form of a little boy, was innocent and trusting, completely reliant on Jiang Lin since he had been “planted” by him. No matter whether they were in the Nine Heavens or the depths of the Underworld, he wouldn’t find anything strange about it.

Huaiyin, on the other hand, felt overwhelmed by the abundant celestial energy in the Nine Heavens, almost feeling faint.

“Sir, what exactly are you?” Huaiyin, born and raised in a mythical world, was a native demon who saw the heavenly court as an incredibly distant and unreachable place.

Seeing her reaction, Jiang Lin reassured her, “Don’t worry. Look at Qingfeng and Qingyue; they’re also plants that took human form, and they’re immortal beings. Their strength isn’t much weaker than yours, is it?”

Huaiyin had a natural reverence for immortals, but to Jiang Lin, they were just another species.

After listening to Jiang Lin and observing the two pure and gentle yet weak young immortals, Huaiyin felt strangely calm.

Qingfeng and Qingyue, on the other hand, were startled by the sudden appearance of the three demons and asked Jiang Lin, “Immortal Lord, who are these three?”

Jiang Lin casually made up a story, “I encountered these three tree demons during my travels in the mortal realm. Seeing that they had the potential for immortality, I allowed them to follow me.”

The two young immortals looked at the three demons but couldn’t figure out where this “immortal potential” was.

However, since the Immortal Lord said it was there, it must be there.

Immortal Lord Liu was known for his cold and aloof nature and had no friends, while these two young immortals were fond of lively company. They had been bored out of their minds guarding the cold and quiet palace.

Now, with the arrival of three new demons who were also of the plant variety, they were technically of the same kind.

The two young immortals were overjoyed and eagerly helped the three demons settle into their new living quarters. They were also very enthusiastic about sharing the many rules and amusing stories of the Heavenly Court with them.

Huaiyin gathered a lot of information from their conversations.

However, Jiang Lin, having acquired Immortal Lord Liu’s memories, already knew everything he needed to know.

He found that Immortal Lord Liu’s original personality was quite convenient.

Solitary and reclusive, with a relatively high status, he lived alone in this place, undisturbed for centuries.

It was perfect for quietly staying put until the task was completed.

Jiang Lin beamed as he looked around at the cold and quiet palace, the surrounding mist, the barren banks of the Milky Way, and the endless stretch of desolation. He immediately began to plan.

So, early the next morning…

Jiang Lin summoned the three little demons and the two young immortals to the courtyard.

“Planting trees and growing food?”

Huaiyin and Qingluo remained silent, while Xiao Pu blinked his big eyes at Jiang Lin.

The two young immortals were confused: “But we don’t need to eat anything. And besides, if we wanted something to eat, we could just go to the God of Food to get it.”

Jiang Lin let out a light huff.

With a rather strange Heavenly Emperor running this Central Heavenly Court, it was no wonder the atmosphere wasn’t great.

Immortal Lord Liu, being powerful by nature, wasn’t treated poorly, but he held no important divine position and had no presence in the Heavenly Emperor’s eyes. Expecting any kind of warm reception was impossible.

Immortal Lord Liu, being naturally proud and reclusive, was certainly aware of this. So, since immortals could survive without food, he simply embraced the lifestyle of a celestial who subsisted on air and dew.

But Jiang Lin wasn’t having it.

He said, “This place is so cold and quiet, and since we don’t have much to do anyway, why not keep ourselves busy? We can pass the time by planting some flowers and trees, making the place more lively and beautiful. Besides, with the dense celestial energy at the source of the Milky Way, who knows? We might even nurture a new little immortal someday.”

Qingfeng and Qingyue’s eyes lit up, and they clapped their hands in agreement: “That’s a great idea!”

They noticed that the Immortal Lord seemed a bit different now—less ethereal and more talkative, with a livelier expression.

Though it took some getting used to, they actually preferred this version of the Immortal Lord.

There was plenty of land around Immortal Lord Liu’s palace.

The palace itself had a vast courtyard, and the area outside stretched endlessly along the banks of the Milky Way, disappearing into the distance.

It was all barren and quiet, a lonely sight.

So they got to work right away.

Qingfeng and Qingyue, who had probably never done anything like farming before, were assigned by Jiang Lin to handle the palace courtyard. He gave each of them a pile of vegetable seeds.

The two young immortals didn’t question where an immortal like their lord had gotten such down-to-earth seeds; instead, they were delighted and treated them as treasures as they happily went off to plant them.

As for the outer area, Jiang Lin entrusted it to Huaiyin and the other two demons.

But then Huaiyin and the others started arguing.

Even though the Ninth Heaven was mostly barren and any spot could serve as land, the most beautiful part was undoubtedly the Milky Way.

The Milky Way was vast, with its waters shimmering with silver light.

Looking down, one could see the glowing, silvery sand in the river.

This was star sand, born from the Milky Way absorbing the light of the moon and stars for countless eons. Gazing into the river, it was as if the riverbed held a reflection of another starry sky.

Huaiyin naturally thought that the banks of the Milky Way should be lined with locust trees. As a locust tree spirit, she believed there was no tree more beautiful or more deserving of being planted.

However, this idea was met with unanimous opposition from both Qingluo and Xiao Pu.

Xiao Pu cheerfully suggested, “Let’s plant dandelions instead. Dandelions are beautiful and easy to grow. I can quickly cover both sides of the Milky Way with dandelions. Imagine the Milky Way shimmering, with dandelions dancing in the breeze on both sides—how beautiful that would be!”

Huaiyin scoffed, “Please, the sky would be filled with fluff; how could that look good?”

Xiao Pu: “…”

He pouted, feeling a bit upset, but being of a good-natured disposition, he didn’t argue further.

Qingluo thought that a field of green grass would look lovely, but both Huaiyin and Xiao Pu found that idea too plain.

Jiang Lin suddenly chimed in, “Why not plant peach trees? Peach blossoms are beautiful when they bloom, and once the flowers fall, we can enjoy the fruit.”

Huaiyin considered it and found no reason to argue against the beauty of peach blossoms.

Qingluo, however, gave Jiang Lin a disdainful look. “Peach orchards are indeed beautiful when they’re in bloom, but, Father, don’t even think about the peaches. The trees look awful after the blossoms fall.”

With their abilities, they naturally knew how to keep the flowers blooming indefinitely.

Jiang Lin: “…”

The practical Jiang Lin mumbled, “A peach tree that doesn’t bear fruit is just for show, isn’t it?”

Xiao Pu comforted him, “Don’t worry, sir. I’ll find a spot to plant some fruit-bearing peach trees so you can have lots of big peaches to eat.”

Jiang Lin immediately broke into a wide grin and affectionately ruffled the soft, fluffy little spirit. “You’re the best, Xiao Pu.”

And so, the decision was made.

Both sides of the Milky Way would be lined with peach trees, and other areas would be planted with different things according to Jiang Lin’s plans.

Jiang Lin, stroking his chin, imagined transforming this corner of the Ninth Heaven into a grand celestial garden. The thought filled him with joy.

After assigning tasks to Huaiyin and the others, Jiang Lin squatted by the Milky Way.

He suddenly had an idea: to try and see if anything could be grown in the Milky Way itself.

Using a bit of celestial magic, he scooped up some material from the river, and in his palm appeared a handful of shimmering, silvery sand.

This was star sand.

The star sand contained the power of the moon and stars, accumulated over countless eons, but no living thing had ever survived in the Milky Way’s waters.

For a farming enthusiast, the challenge of cultivating life in barren soil was a thrill.

Jiang Lin began sorting through the seeds in his Jade Space, pulling out every aquatic plant seed he could find and attempting to plant them one by one.

Nope. Not working. Not that one either…

None of them worked.

Even Qingluo, seeing him struggle, volunteered to jump in with her true form to try.

But within less than a quarter of an hour, Qingluo returned to her original form and shook her head at Jiang Lin. “The power in this water is too strong; I can’t withstand it.”

Jiang Lin understood. “Looks like I’ll need to find another approach.”

Meanwhile, as Huaiyin and the others finished planting the peach trees, they noticed Jiang Lin squatting by the Milky Way every day, seemingly busy with something.

Qingfeng and Qingyue were puzzled. “The Immortal Lord has changed so much.”

Huaiyin casually explained, “It’s said that a god’s personality can change dramatically after being lonely for too long. I guess the Immortal Lord is just like that.”

Qingfeng and Qingyue thought about it and imagined themselves going without conversation or company for thousands of years…

They shivered. “That makes sense!”

So, what was Jiang Lin actually doing? He was experimenting with crossbreeding plants and had already seen some promising results.

When the divine soul imprint in his mind began to fluctuate, his first hybrid plant, combining multiple attributes, was finally cultivated.
