Ch 5: The Malevolent Monster Just Wants To Farm Aug 11 2024August 11, 2024 The cat demon had never seen what celestial nectar looked like, nor did she know what it tasted like. She had only heard the older demons of White Tiger Ridge mention it in a tone of deep longing. They said it was something only immortals could drink, and just one sip would make everything youâd eaten before seem unworthy of being called food. The cat demon, who spent her days hunting in the forest and drinking mountain spring water when thirsty, couldnât imagine what that tasted like. But now, as she stared at the pot of simmering chicken soup, the cat demon felt like she might understand just a little. The aroma was so captivating that it grabbed her full attention almost instantly. Even her instinctive fear of Jiang Lin diminished significantly as she quietly inched closer, swallowing her saliva, and gazing at the still-boiling pot. In the golden broth, tender chicken pieces floated, while various mushrooms, having soaked up the rich flavors, elevated the soupâs freshness to another level. Jiang Lin had already taken out bowls. He served himself a bowl and, this time, didnât forget the cat demon, offering her a bowl as well. The cat demon was a bit overwhelmed by this gesture, nervously gripping the bowl with her tiny paws. She stammered, âMy lord, I-I get some too?â Jiang Lin smiled. âThe wild chicken was caught by you.â The cat demon happily accepted the bowl and said, âBut wild chickens are very ordinary. Itâs you, my lord, who used immortal methods to make it taste so good.â She didnât yet understand the concept of âcookingâ; she only knew that wild chickens could never taste this delicious on their own. So she figured it must have been the lordâs immortal magic that made the chicken so fragrant! Jiang Lin thought this little demon was truly innocent, with no sense of caution at all, and she just accepted the food without hesitation. As he reminded the cat demon to be careful of the heat, he gently blew on his own bowl and took a small sip. The rich, savory flavor exploded on his tongue. âThe taste⌠itâs incredibly fresh,â Jiang Lin marveled to the system, âEven in my previous life, Iâve never had chicken soup this delicious.â The wild chicken in this mythical world had such superior meat quality, combined with the jade spaceâs enhancement and the top-grade mushrooms Jiang Lin had cultivated with his spiritual power. The result was so good that it made you want to swallow your own tongue. Jiang Lin took another bite of the mushrooms. The mushrooms had absorbed the soupâs essence, becoming soft and tender. One bite, and they almost melted in his mouth. The fresh flavor of the chicken soup perfectly blended with the mushroomsâ unique aroma, eliminating any slight greasiness from the soup. The taste was simply divine! Jiang Lin quickly finished his bowl of chicken soup. When he looked up, he saw the cat demon carefully sipping her soup in very small bites. Compared to the roasted chicken from earlier, the cat demon clearly favored the chicken soup more. She liked it so much that she seemed reluctant to finish it, savoring it slowly, trying to prolong the wonderful experience. Jiang Lin instantly understood her thoughts. Feeling generous now that he was full, he smiled and said to the cat demon, âIf you like it, eat as much as you want. Donât hold back; we can have this every day from now on.â The cat demon looked up in shock, but before she could say anything, a raspy voice nearby excitedly cut in, âReally, truly?â Jiang Lin: ? He turned in response to the voice and saw two figures crouching in a nearby tree⌠or rather, two demons. One was a man wrapped in a black robe, with a somewhat sinister appearance. The other was a stunningly beautiful woman, with no visible demonic features except for her dark red eyes. Her clothes were also strikingâvividly colored and bold. On an ordinary person, they might look gaudy, but paired with her vibrant appearance, the effect was quite harmonious. The one who had spoken was the man in the black robe. Jiang Lin, having a higher level of cultivation, immediately recognized that these two demons were birdsâthe man in the black robe was a crow, and the beautiful female demon was a pheasant. At this moment, both bird demons were staring intently at Jiang Lin⌠or rather, at the pot of soup in front of him. Looking around, Jiang Lin noticed that it wasnât just these two. At some point, three or four more demons had also gathered nearby. They had obviously been drawn by the aroma of the roasted chicken and soup but were too intimidated by the White Bone Spiritâs aura to approach. All they could do was watch enviously as the cat demon happily ate by Jiang Linâs side. The system commented softly, âYour sense of vigilance is too poor. These are all weaker than you, yet you didnât notice them getting close.â Jiang Lin felt a bit ashamed and very honestly admitted his mistake. âItâs true, I wasnât careful enough.â He had been too focused on the meat, and knowing that this was White Tiger Ridge, where nothing could threaten the White Bone Spirit, he had let his guard down in the face of delicious food. âIt wonât happen again,â he promised. As he looked at the demons, all staring longingly at the food, and recalled how the cat demon had behaved earlier, an idea began to form in his mind. While his thoughts were racing, he put on a warm, friendly smile. This smile looked gentle and welcoming, easily putting the demons at ease. But anyone from Jiang Linâs past life who knew him well would immediately steer clear upon seeing this smileâit usually meant he was up to no good. âHello there,â he greeted the demons. These demons, who all lived on the mountain, were well aware of the White Bone Kingâs temperament. While they were surprised to see that the White Bone Spiritâs physical form was such a handsome and gentle-looking young man, they remained cautious. âYour Majesty,â an elderly monkey demon bowed slightly to Jiang Lin. However, although this old monkey had lived a bit longer and was slightly more vigilant than the younger demons, it was only just a little bit more⌠just a tiny bit more. After greeting Jiang Lin, the monkey couldnât help but eagerly point at the pot of chicken soup and the remaining half of the roasted chicken, asking, âWhat is this?â As soon as he asked, the other demons perked up their ears, their eyes fixed on Jiang Lin with intense curiosity. They didnât even try to hide their thoughts. It was very naive and innocent, Jiang Lin thought with a sigh, his smile growing even warmer. âYou mean this food?â The demons all nodded quickly. But instead of answering, Jiang Lin pointed to the cat demon. âWhy donât you ask the cat demon? She knows more about it than I do.â The cat demon? All eyes immediately turned to the cat demon. The cat demonâs ears twitched, and she proudly said, âThis is wild pheasant. I personally hunted it myself.â âWild pheasant?â The crow demon was shocked. âThatâs impossible! Iâve eaten wild pheasant before. How could it smell this good?â The pheasant demon nodded in agreement. âWho hasnât eaten wild pheasant? But itâs never been this delicious!â Jiang Lin listened to these two birds casually discussing the taste of their fellow species: “⌔ Demons really do have no scruples, he thought.
