Ch 128: The Cannon Fodder Won’t Play Along Anymore [QT]

Mu Xing was a young man who didn’t really like browsing StarNet for gossip.

Other than his daily live streams, the only reason he went online was usually to search for the information he needed.

So he didn’t notice this matter at first.

But in the house, besides Mu Xing, there was also the StarNet-addicted girl Mu Yue.

She angrily forwarded him all kinds of posts from StarNet, thoroughly disgusted: “How can there be such a person? Back at home he wouldn’t even spare us a glance and kicked us out to this remote Red Moon Star. And now he actually has the nerve to market some family affection?”

Only then did Mu Xing realize what was happening.

He skimmed through a few posts, his expression calm: “Don’t get mad. I’ll mention it during the stream.”

When they were useless, he kicked them away, wishing they were dead.

Now that they were useful, he started treating their whole family as tools again.

How could such a thing exist in this world?

Mu Xing opened his live stream.

Although he hadn’t set a strict schedule, the time he usually went live was fairly consistent.

And now, besides people coming for the flowers, most viewers were here for Mu Xing himself—the one with the so-called “hand of god.”

So the moment he entered the stream, many viewers got the notification and rushed in.

Just as Mu Xing joined, he saw someone in the chat say:

“Little Xingxing is part of the Mu family, and Red Moon Star falls under the Ice Blue System. If his uncle becomes the Chief Executive, won’t that definitely benefit our Red Moon Star?”

It sounded pretty convincing on the surface.

Mu Xing let out a soft laugh, greeted the viewers as usual, then looked at that comment and said: “You’ve got it a little wrong.”

【???】

The chat was instantly filled with question marks.

Mu Xing calmly said: “First, Red Moon Star only falls under the Ice Blue System on the map, but it is not under its jurisdiction. I am the sole owner of Red Moon Star, and the Ice Blue homeworld has no authority to interfere in any of Red Moon’s affairs.”

“Second, perhaps you don’t know, but for personal reasons our family split from the Mu family on the homeworld long ago. Whatever happens with the Mu family on the homeworld has nothing to do with us out here on remote Red Moon.”

“The Chief Executive election is an extremely important and serious matter for the Ice Blue System. I hope everyone can approach it calmly and rationally. Don’t let my personal affairs disrupt the election process.”

“If you truly want to participate, I encourage you to carefully study each candidate’s information, make a thoughtful evaluation, and then cast your precious vote.”

His words carried a bit of private intent, but also fairness.

Because if people voted for Mu Lin blindly just out of fondness for him and his flowers, without weighing anything else, then that would clearly be unfair.

But Mu Xing also knew very well: now that he had come forward and spoken such words, the election would no longer be fair.

—At least, not for Mu Lin.

He thought a little willfully: So what? Mu Lin wasn’t a good person, nor was he particularly capable. Whether he or anyone else became Chief Executive made little difference to the Ice Blue System. Maybe he’d even be worse.

If Mu Lin had been a truly skilled politician, someone who could contribute greatly to the Ice Blue System, perhaps Mu Xing would have hesitated before using his own grievances to interfere with the greater public good.

But since it wouldn’t make much difference to the people either way, then if he cut off Mu Lin’s path with a little trick…

His dear uncle would probably be hopping mad and helpless at the same time, wouldn’t he?

Because of how openly he revealed his stance, the stream erupted into chaos:

【Wait, what? Split the family? I thought in families like this, unless relations were so bad they couldn’t coexist at all, they’d never split.】

【So actually, whoever becomes Chief Executive on the homeworld has nothing to do with Red Moon Star and our Little Xingxing? Then why were so many people saying it would help?】

【I always wanted to call that out. Red Moon Star is a massive treasure now, who wouldn’t know that? Any Chief Executive with half a brain wouldn’t cause trouble for Red Moon Star.】

【Damn, split the family, moved to Red Moon… my head instantly pictures a whole family drama. After all, Red Moon Star used to be dirt poor.】

【I’m here, I’m here! I’m friends with the streamer’s cousin. At a party before, she mentioned the Mu family finally split, and she was so happy to get rid of those parasites. She laughed saying Mu Xing’s family only got dumped with that broken Red Moon Star.】

【I’m here too, I’ve known Mu Yue since childhood. Mu Xing’s family didn’t have it easy in the Mu clan. Even though they were direct line, they were never allowed into the core management. Of course, part of that was because Mu Xing’s parents weren’t very capable, nothing to argue there. But when we heard Mu Rongrong only got Red Moon Star in the split, we were shocked. She was the legal first heir… the Mu family really was ruthless.】

【??? So this “little young master of a great clan” was actually a poor thing all along?】

【No wonder. I always wondered why Little Xingxing’s whole family lived out here on Red Moon Star. No wonder he never mentioned anything from before.】

When Mu Xing was saying these things in his stream, Mu Lin was meeting with Mu Rongrong.

If it had been in the past, Mu Lin probably wouldn’t have met his elder sister at all—he had always looked down on her.

But now was not the same as before. When he heard Mu Rongrong had come, he not only went to see her personally but even put on a warm, intimate smile.

As if they were just a normal pair of siblings with a good relationship.

However, the moment Mu Rongrong saw him, she threw a thick stack of documents right at his face.

Mu Lin picked it up, flipped through a few pages, and a flash of surprise passed through his eyes.

His smile did not change. “This is Xingxing’s medical record? Sister, do you want to bring Xingxing to the Ice Blue main star for convalescence?”

Mu Rongrong stared at him coldly. “Don’t play dumb with me. Tell me, what enmity do you have with me? That you wouldn’t even spare my unborn child?”

Mu Lin put away his smile and said blandly, “I don’t understand what you’re talking about.”

Mu Rongrong said, “Xingxing’s condition wasn’t natural, it was man-made. Back then when I was pregnant, the reaction was so severe I hardly went out during the whole pregnancy. It could only have happened at home.”

And in the Mu family estate, Old Master Mu would never have laid a hand on her.

Apart from Mu Lin, there could be no one else.

She fixed her eyes on him, trying to see even a flicker of guilt on his face.

Mu Lin only shook his head. “Sister, did something on Red Moon Star rattle you so badly that you came up with such absurd notions? You’re my sister, Xingxing is my nephew, we’re family.”

“Family?” Mu Rongrong had never expected Mu Lin to admit it anyway.

She asked softly, “Can you tell me, why are you so guarded against me?”

She believed that her behavior from childhood to now had shown she was never a threat.

“A person like you who craves power the most should actually favor someone like me, with no ability and no ambition, as your rival, shouldn’t you?”

Mu Lin gave a short laugh, just about to speak, when suddenly he received a call from a subordinate.

The easy expression on his face instantly changed when he opened it.

He hung up quickly, his face dark, staring at Mu Rongrong. “Sister, you really gave birth to a good son. That boy Mu Xing, quiet as a mouse, but when he bites, he’s fiercer than anyone.”

Mu Rongrong froze. “What happened with Xingxing? What did he do?”

Mu Lin looked half-mad with rage.

How could he not be? His assistant had just told him that the star network was now full of people cursing him, his votes had come to a standstill, and Mu Xing’s fans were now casting their votes for his competitors.

Mu Lin no longer had the patience to deal with Mu Rongrong. He glared at his sister and said coldly, “Actually, I’ve always been curious—why is it that a useless person like you could live carefree, basked in affection?”

“Since I was young, I’ve had to study desperately, my life scheduled full to the brim. I never had a normal childhood. As soon as I graduated, I was put into the family company as an intern. Even my wife was chosen by the family—I never had any say…”

Mu Lin’s tone slowed, heavy. “Not a single day in my life have I lived freely, without worries, doing as I wished.”

“I’ve worked this hard, isn’t it only right that the Mu family be handed to me?”

Mu Rongrong frowned. “It was always yours. I never wanted it.”

“You didn’t want it? No—you were unqualified to want it, incapable of taking it! Even if the Mu family were handed to you, a useless waste, you wouldn’t be able to hold it.” Mu Lin sneered. “I’ve always thought, maybe Father saw you were hopeless and so had no choice but to turn to me.”

“I’ve always been nothing but a tool.”

Mu Rongrong looked at her rarely shaken brother. “I don’t understand why you think this way. What exactly are you trying to say?”

Mu Lin dropped his smile. “Didn’t you ask why I dislike you? After Mu Yue was born, I overheard Father and his lawyer discussing that half of his fortune would one day be left to you.”

Mu Rongrong was stunned.

Mu Lin’s tone was cold. “And why? Mu Rongrong, do you think you deserve it? I work myself half to death, give everything I have, and in the end, what I’ve earned still has to be split with you.”

Mu Rongrong said in shock, “I never knew this…”

“Do you need to know?” Mu Lin’s gaze at her carried malice. “I often thought… if only you’d have some kind of accident.”

Mu Rongrong’s mind went blank. She thought dully: so it was because of this?

That was why she was so detested by Mu Lin.

But…

She wondered in confusion for a moment, what wrong have I done?

Then she suddenly recalled her little son’s sweet, obedient smile.

Yes, what wrong had she done? And what wrong had little Xingxing done?

In that instant her scattered thoughts snapped back into clarity.

“What does it have to do with me?” she asked softly, her gaze growing bright and firm. “It has nothing to do with me.”

She stared at Mu Lin. “If you think Father was unjust, that he was wrong, then after all these years, have you ever confronted him?”

Mu Lin froze.

Mu Rongrong struck right to the heart. “You haven’t. You don’t dare.”

“Because you believe Father is stronger. You lack the courage to question him. But you’re not reconciled either, so you can only vent your anger on me, the weaker one—even to the point of harming an unborn child.”

Mu Rongrong’s voice was cold and full of disappointment. “Mu Lin, you truly make me despise you.”

“Coward.”

She had her answer now, and found it utterly meaningless.

She turned to leave. “I have no proof right now, Mu Lin. You’d better pray you can hide it all your life. Otherwise, I will never let you off.”
