Ch 129: Is There Really Such a Good Thing? [QT]

Bai Ze’s forced smile faltered, and for a moment, he couldn’t find words to reply, leaving the atmosphere awkward. Host Hao Jing quickly smoothed things over with an outro, wrapping up the session and clearing the room for Shen Yunxuan to record the final five-minute knowledge segment alone.

Shen Yunxuan unrolled a facial chart and hung it on the wall, motioning for the camera to zoom in. She pointed to the illustrations and began explaining meticulously, “When observing people, you can start by looking at the ‘three divisions’ and ‘five eyes’ of the face. Then check the eye shape, nose shape… For instance, this area here is the ‘Spouse Palace.’ If it looks like this, it indicates the person is married. Don’t get deceived…”

“Master Shen is seriously teaching us metaphysics. Can I even comprehend this?”
“I’m crying. How could she think we’d understand such advanced concepts?”
“She really wants us to learn, though. She’s so genuine.”

Shen Yunxuan continued with an example: “If the person has eyes shaped like this and a slightly shifty gaze, it suggests abundant but messy romantic encounters—what we’d call promiscuity. Additionally, if the philtrum looks like this and the temples are like that, it could indicate illegal activities or even a potential prison sentence…”

“Oh no! My boyfriend’s eyes resemble those! I’m going to check his phone!”

“I didn’t understand a single word, but this feels so high-level. Did anyone get it?”

“I did! Oh my god, I’ve always been a C or D student, but I understood every word she said and remembered it all!”

“Girl, that’s a talent! Go to Idle Cloud Temple and become a disciple. Maybe one day, we’ll see you doing fortune-telling live streams!”

“I’m on my way! I failed my college entrance exam and didn’t know what to do. My mom told me to pick up a skill. This is perfect. Master Shen, wait for me! I’m going to learn face reading!”

As cheerful comments filled the screen, Shen Yunxuan bade her audience farewell, noting that this was just a basic introduction to face-reading. For practical situations, she advised people to observe others’ words and actions instead of relying solely on metaphysics. She promised to prepare some useful Feng Shui tips for the next session.

Fans expressed their anticipation while saying goodbye, creating a harmonious atmosphere—except for Bai Ze’s fans, who felt especially aggrieved.

“Can Shen Yunxuan even speak properly? Why would she suggest cutting off Bai Ze’s romantic luck? Is she insane?”

“She has zero emotional intelligence. No wonder she didn’t make it big for so long and has so much negative press.”

Shen Yunxuan’s fans found it amusing.

“Your idol literally said he wanted to give up romantic luck. Master Shen offered to help, and now you’re upset? Because he didn’t respond?”

“Exactly. It’s hilarious. Bai Ze didn’t dare reply because he was probably afraid of actually losing his romantic luck. A 25-year-old guy as good-looking as he is, never been in a relationship? Who believes that?”

“Enough already! Bai Ze just made polite remarks. Why must you nitpick every word and blow it out of proportion?”

“Master Shen rarely calls people out unless they ask for it, like Liang Meilan did. If Bai Ze got a comment like that, it probably means he has some juicy drama related to his romantic life. Could it be that he already has a girlfriend?”

“Get lost! Shen Yunxuan’s fans are just as disgusting as her. All you want is to ride on Bai Ze’s fame and stir up a fake relationship!”

“Keep your bad luck away from us! Dear heavens, please protect Shen Yunxuan from this negativity!”

The fight raged on, cementing a fierce rivalry between Shen Yunxuan’s fans and Bai Ze’s fans. This drew a massive audience, with people joining in to watch the drama unfold. For the first time since Shen Yunxuan’s meteoric rise, her fans were involved in a large-scale online feud. Meanwhile, speculation about Bai Ze’s romantic history spread like wildfire. Marketing accounts began peddling theories about whether Bai Ze had ever been in a relationship, reviving old rumors as potential evidence of his supposed romantic exploits.

Bai Ze’s diehard fans entered full combat mode, insisting their idol had never been in a relationship. Any suggestion otherwise was met with vicious rebuttals. They claimed he was a pure soul who had never been romantically inclined or ambiguous with anyone. This stance enraged other fandoms, who felt insulted and retaliated fiercely.

Soon, multiple fandoms banded together to drag Bai Ze, pushing him to the top of the trending charts.

“Does Bai Ze even have a body of work? He’s mediocre at singing, dancing, and acting—what else does he have?”

“All those women keep their distance, and Bai Ze’s the one clinging. Who’s the real attention-seeker here?”

“Why does he get luxury endorsements? Is it talent? His fans are just delusional.”

“Every drama, he’s in a new fake ship. Every variety show, he’s got another PR stunt. Who’s the real clout chaser here?”

“I feel bad for his fans—they’re getting played and still have to clean up his mess.”

Bai Ze’s fans, who had instigated the initial scuffles, were now overwhelmed and unable to fight back effectively. As onlookers watched the drama unfold, many began to believe Bai Ze might genuinely be leveraging romantic rumors for publicity.

Meanwhile, in the car, Bai Ze’s manager was livid. “Your fans are so dumb! All they know is how to cause trouble for you. Now you’re being attacked on all sides, and they can’t even defend you properly. They’re ruining your public image and dragging you down!”

Bai Ze frowned as he scrolled through the online comments, clicking his tongue in frustration. “These people are so full of themselves. It’s like they have pig brains. Get the trending topic suppressed and figure out how to salvage my reputation. What the hell? I was being careful not to mess with Shen Yunxuan, and yet these fans of mine have the guts to storm her social feed? And now I’m the one taking the heat while they stay unscathed?”

His manager sighed. “Be extra careful while filming the show. Don’t say anything like what you said today. Shen Yunxuan has this elusive and unpredictable nature. You don’t want to end up like Liang Meilan.”

Bai Ze scoffed. “Liang Meilan was an idiot who ran straight into the line of fire. How could I possibly end up like her? Anyway, leave me alone. I’m sick of this. I need to make a call.”

The manager wanted to advise him not to contact his girlfriend during such a volatile time, but Bai Ze was already annoyed. Risking an argument didn’t seem worth it, especially since the girl was utterly devoted to Bai Ze and unlikely to stir up trouble.

To the manager’s surprise, Bai Ze’s girlfriend had watched the livestream and bombarded him with questions about Shen Yunxuan. Irritated, Bai Ze made an excuse to hang up and then contacted another girl.

The manager mouthed silently, “A new one?”

Bai Ze smirked, holding up his phone to show the girl wearing a school uniform. The manager gave a sleazy thumbs-up, and Bai Ze’s mood visibly improved as he listened to the girl sweetly call him “brother” over and over. Soon, all his frustrations with the internet were forgotten.

Meanwhile, Shen Yunxuan, who didn’t have a manager, was informed of the situation online by Lin Zixiao. Concerned, Lin Zixiao asked, “Right now, the internet is linking you and Bai Ze as one of his rumored CPs. Should we suppress the trending topic and manage public perception?”

Shen Yunxuan glanced at it briefly. It wasn’t really a CP; there was no chemistry or romantic tension to latch onto. It was merely the result of their fans’ feud, leading to both names being associated.

She dismissed it lightly. “There’s no actual issue. Trying to suppress it would just attract more attention. Let it be. People will soon stop caring about this supposed CP.”

Lin Zixiao raised an eyebrow. “Does that mean Bai Ze is about to have his reputation tarnished? If that happens, won’t the show lose two participants?”

Shen Yunxuan thought about it and realized he had a point. She quickly called the director and suggested that preparations be made. The director, though unsure of the specifics, trusted Shen Yunxuan’s judgment and began scouting replacements immediately.

“Master Shen, why don’t you pick two replacements for us? I’m worried the people I select might also end up being problematic, and that would make the show a joke.”

Shen Yunxuan chuckled. “Alright, what kind of people are you looking for?”

“Someone with a bit of status and appeal to viewers. Ideally, they should also bring some intrigue.”

Recalling how much Lin Zixiao had helped her and his efforts to grow Shark Streaming, Shen Yunxuan smiled. “How about the CEO of Shayu Streaming? Lin Zixiao. He’s an upright, ambitious second-generation entrepreneur, unmarried at thirty, and a golden bachelor. He’d represent a unique demographic for the panel. What do you think?”

“Lin Zixiao? Your company’s boss? That’s perfect! Absolutely perfect! And do you have someone else in mind for the second slot?”

Shen Yunxuan thought for a moment before suggesting, “There’s someone I helped during a live fortune-telling session—Ms. Li, a fifty-something woman who divorced recently and started traveling the country in a camper van. She’s become popular online for sharing her journey. Since this is a dating show, her perspective might be refreshing. What do you think?”

“I don’t know her, but I trust your judgment. Let’s go with her! Please share her contact details, and we’ll reach out to her immediately,” the director agreed enthusiastically.

Before ending the call, the director nervously asked, “By the way, about the six participants… Have you noticed anything concerning about them? Any potential issues?”

Amused by his cautious tone, Shen Yunxuan said, “Three of them have potential problems. You might want to prepare a few backups and send me the candidates to review.”

The director groaned but didn’t ask which three. “I’ll get in touch with everyone we’ve considered before. Better to be prepared.” He regretted not consulting her earlier—it could’ve saved a lot of trouble.

After handling the call, Shen Yunxuan prepared to take a cab home. Suddenly, a flowerpot fell from above, hurtling straight toward her head.

Across the street, seated in a car, Zhou Yunxuan’s eyes lit up as she rolled down the window to watch. Finally, this was the bad luck she expected! Even if Shen Yunxuan dodged the pot due to her cultivation, the incident was undeniable proof of her cursed fate.

But at that moment, an elderly man nearby tripped and fell. Shen Yunxuan immediately rushed to help him, narrowly avoiding the flowerpot. It shattered loudly on the ground, drawing the attention of passersby. People looked up, shouting at the lack of civic responsibility, while others expressed relief that no one was hurt.

Zhou Yunxuan sat frozen in her car, dumbfounded.

How could this be? Wasn’t Shen Yunxuan supposed to be cursed with bad luck? Could it really be the government department protecting her?

Shen Yunxuan helped the elderly man get into a taxi and coincidentally ended up standing near Zhou Yunxuan’s car. Unable to hold back, Zhou Yunxuan asked, “You… do you always manage to avoid things like this?”

Without looking at her, Shen Yunxuan simply replied, “Good deeds are rewarded, and kindness brings good fortune.” Then she got into her car and left.

“‘Good deeds are rewarded?'” Zhou Yunxuan repeated the phrase twice, then let out a bitter laugh. If good deeds are truly rewarded, what did I do wrong to deserve all this bad luck? You can avoid it, but I can’t. Does that mean I’m not kind enough? That I deserve this? The heavens clearly favored you, Shen Yunxuan.

Bitterness resurfaced in her heart, and her expression darkened. Why is it that after taking Shen Yunxuan’s fate, I still feel dissatisfied and must constantly scheme? Yet, she thrives with my original fate, even better than before. It’s like I handed her the good fortune on a silver platter. How is this fair?

When Shen Yunxuan returned to SAD, the porcupine spirit elder Bai Yuzhu updated her on Idle Wanderer’s condition. It was better than expected, and if the necessary rare medicinal herbs could be found quickly, Bai Yuzhu was confident she could fully cure him.

Overjoyed, Shen Yunxuan promised to find the herbs no matter what.

She immediately went live, titling her broadcast “Seeking Medicinal Herbs.” She wrote the names and required ages of the herbs on a board and placed it beside her.

“Is Master Shen teaching us about traditional medicine today?”

“No, look at the title. Is she really searching for these herbs?”

Shen Yunxuan nodded. “I urgently need these herbs. If anyone is willing to part with them, please contact me. I’m willing to pay or trade. I can read fortunes, provide feng shui advice, or exorcise spirits—whatever works. Please consider it.”

“I don’t have any of these, but if I did, I’d give them to you immediately.”

“Don’t joke about this. Master Shen, are you unwell? Have you seen a doctor?”

Shen Yunxuan smiled. “Don’t worry; it’s for a friend.”

“I study traditional medicine. These herbs are indeed rare and hard to find. I hope the internet can help Master Shen locate them.”

“If anyone has leads, share them! Master Shen will personally reach out.”

“Let’s spread this on all platforms. Hopefully, we can gather the herbs quickly.”

Shen Yunxuan was touched. “Thank you all for your help. Since I haven’t done fortune-telling these past few days, let’s do it today. As usual, we’ll draw lucky bags. Feel free to participate!”

“Haha, there’s no need to participate so enthusiastically. Everyone who gets picked ends up with bad news.”

“Master Shen, no need to thank us. Just release more talismans!”

Shen Yunxuan remembered something. “By the way, the calming incense I’ve been selling is quite popular. Remember, don’t overuse it. Even if you’re in a pinch, don’t rely on it for three consecutive nights without sleep—it’s bad for your health. Treat your cells well, and they’ll treat you well too.”

“‘Cells’? Hearing that from a fortune-teller feels surreal.”

“Master Shen always says to believe in science most of the time.”

“I advise you to avoid blind faith in science. Study metaphysics instead—it’s the real deal.”

As everyone joked, the lucky draw selected a viewer named “Drunkard.” When the call connected, a frustrated man appeared, smoking and surrounded by empty bottles of various alcohols.

“Let me guess: lost money in stocks, company went bankrupt, cheated on, or terminally ill?”

“You’re taking all the bamboo shoots from the mountain with guesses like that. At least one has to be right!”

Though clearly tipsy, “Drunkard” still seemed coherent. He sighed, “None of those. My wife wants a divorce because she thinks I’m useless. Master Shen, I don’t want to divorce her—I love her. We’ve been married five years, and I’ve been a perfect husband. Why does she still want to leave? How can I win her back?”

“Drunkard” shook his head, a bitter smile on his face. “No way. She’s not that kind of person.”

Shen Yunxuan had already studied his face. “Why do you think it’s impossible? She does have someone else. She believes he’s younger, better-looking, and wealthier than you. That’s why she wants a divorce.”

“Drunkard” froze, his cigarette burning his fingers without him noticing. His voice trembled. “What did you say? My wife… she can’t… no way… Who? Tell me who it is!”

Drunkard was already incoherent when Shen Yunxuan calmly said, “Send me your wife’s photo and her birth date. I’ll calculate.”

Drunkard immediately started trembling as he typed, “I don’t know the full birth date and time, just her birthday. Is that okay?”

“It will do.” Shen Yunxuan calculated for a moment and raised an eyebrow. “What a coincidence.”

“What coincidence? Master, did you figure it out?” Drunkard asked, trying to suppress his anger. “When did she start cheating?”

Shen Yunxuan replied, “Not long ago, just over two weeks. It started right after your honeymoon, when you were working overtime to catch up on tasks you missed during the trip.”

Drunkard felt his vision go dark. To surprise his wife, he had worked overtime beforehand to earn bonuses and bought luxury cruise tickets for their honeymoon. After returning, he had to work extra to make up for the lost time—two months of intense work that even his colleagues advised him to ease up on. Yet, while he was busy working, his wife met someone else and began an affair?

“Does she think I’m a fool?” he muttered bitterly.

Shen Yunxuan got to the point. “If you want evidence, check the bottom shelf of the master bathroom cabinet.”

Drunkard froze for a second but then grabbed his phone and rushed to the bathroom. That shelf contained his wife’s sanitary products, and he never touched it out of respect. He hadn’t expected a secret to be hidden there.

He pulled out a delicate box containing a USB drive and a lace undergarment. Drunkard immediately guessed that the underwear was some sort of memento from her first affair. Overwhelmed with disgust, he rushed to the toilet to vomit. For the first time, feelings of love turned to revulsion. The thought that they had been intimate recently made him want to throw up even more.

“This guy’s luck is terrible.”

“First time seeing someone keep such a ‘souvenir.’ That’s… a lot to process.”

“Why do good men end up with bad women, and good women with bad men?”

“Check the USB drive! If there are incriminating videos, you can report them to the police.”

“At the very least, use it to minimize her share of the assets in the divorce. Don’t let her off easy!”

Drunkard washed his face and took the USB drive to his study to examine it. His hands shook as he opened the folder. To his relief, there were no explicit videos; otherwise, he wasn’t sure he’d be able to contain himself. However, the contents still stung—there were several photos of his wife with the other man, including intimate selfies. One photo even showed the man asleep in bed while his wife secretly took pictures of him from various angles. It was evident she was deeply infatuated.

Suddenly, the livestream exploded:

“Holy sh*t, that’s Bai Ze!”

“I knew I wasn’t imagining it—it’s Bai Ze! He’s even wearing that new earring he got two weeks ago. The timeline matches!”

“Bai Ze has a girlfriend? And it’s someone else’s wife? Did Bai Ze know she was married?”

“I feel bad for his fans who were defending him so fiercely earlier today. This is a total disaster.”

“Hey, man, can you zoom in on the photos? We need to confirm if it’s really him.”

“It is. Even his signature teardrop mole matches.”

Drunkard initially didn’t understand why people were reacting this way. “Who’s Bai Ze? Why does everyone seem to know him?” After a quick explanation and some online searches, he learned that Bai Ze was a popular idol. Drunkard, too busy with work to follow entertainment news, hadn’t paid attention. But now, thinking back, his wife had indeed been watching a lot of music videos and idol dramas recently. So she had been fangirling over Bai Ze all along.

And Bai Ze, during today’s recording, had played the role of the innocent, claiming to be “single since birth” and never having been in love!

Drunkard didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “She wants to divorce me for… him? A liar who deceives his fans and the public—a scrawny twig of a man? All my years of love and devotion couldn’t compare to the sweet talk of someone like that?”

“Stay strong, man. Maybe she was already a fan of Bai Ze, and his attention made her lose her head.”

“Yeah, let it go. With those photos now public, they’re both going to crash and burn. Bai Ze, especially—his fans turning on him will be revenge enough.”

“You’re not seriously going to stay with her, are you? Wake up, dude!”

Drunkard took a deep breath, grabbed a honeymoon photo from his desk, and threw it in the trash. “I’m done. If she likes him so much, I’ll let them have each other. I just want to see how long they’ll last.”

Shen Yunxuan chuckled. “They won’t.”

Bai Ze’s fans flooded the livestream, their rage practically tangible—but they weren’t turning against Bai Ze. Instead, they were attacking Shen Yunxuan.

“Shameless Shen Yunxuan! How dare you Photoshop fake evidence to frame Bai Ze?”

“God, this is the worst script I’ve ever seen. Shen Yunxuan, you’re so desperate for fame that you’d stage something like this? Get a grip!”

Drunkard scowled at the barrage of vulgar comments. “What’s wrong with these lunatics? This is stuff I just found in my wife’s cabinet. If not for the Master, I’d still be in the dark. What nonsense about a setup? Who is this Bai Ze, anyway? Disgusting, and so are his brain-dead fans.”

“Shut up, you piece of sh*t! We’re going to expose all your personal info. You’re done for!”

“Apologize, Shen Yunxuan! Get out of the entertainment industry!”

Shen Yunxuan calmly took a sip of tea and said, “It seems our next lucky winner, ‘Lily of the Valley,’ is here. What would you like to know?”

The livestream cut to a middle-aged woman with tear-streaked cheeks holding her ID card. She sobbed, “Master, I’m your fan. Please, help me find my daughter. I’m reporting Bai Ze for luring her away. I saw her messages—he tricked her into meeting him. Please tell me where they are! She’s only sixteen!”

Sandy, cute darling… it seems there’s a paragraph missing!
the one right above this sentence:
“Drunkyard” shook his head, a bitter smile on his face. “No way. She’s not that kind of person.”
logically there should be sentence added by FL, telling him his wife is cheating…
    —-
So.. Bai Ze is a playboy who won’t even stop from getting his hands on minors, while acting like a pure little white lotus?
