Ch 80: My Wolf Husband

It rained for an entire day and night. After the rain, the air was fresh and clear, and the land of Dongshan was thoroughly soaked. The rainwater that the earth couldn’t absorb quickly enough gathered into rivers and waterfalls, becoming the lifeblood of Dongshan, nourishing all living things.

With this, summer officially announced its arrival, grand and noisy.

Fish swam upstream to warm waters to spawn. Ant colonies expanded their nests in preparation for new life. The forest grew lush and green, and wildflowers bloomed in abundance.

As time passed, Lin Shuishi finally noticed something unusual about himself one day.

The night air was hot, and the man beside him was eager to hold him close. Blushing, Lin Shuishi undressed, but when he looked down, he noticed something.

He had gained weight, but only around his belly…

He immediately pushed Fuli away, glancing at the man’s sturdy eight-pack abs, then down at his own pale, round belly. He was horrified! How could he go on like this?

He wasn’t even middle-aged yet, and already he was getting a dad bod?

Lin Shuishi blamed it all on the huge slabs of honey Fuli brought back for him every day. It must have been the high calories! After all, honey was definitely not zero-calorie!

He, Lin Shuishi, had always been small but strong, round but not fat!

So, in the days that followed, he restrained himself from indulging in the various delicacies Fuli brought back—no more reaching out, no more eating.

Honey, sweet fruits, stuffed rainbow trout, sizzling roasted lamb…

Rejected! All of it was rejected! If he got any fatter, he wouldn’t dare take off his clothes in front of Fuli anymore.

But the more he refused, the more Fuli tried to tempt him with different kinds of food, leaving Lin Shuishi torn between his cravings and his determination.

Finally, he couldn’t resist any longer. After taking a bite of honey, he gave up the fight.

Fine, Fuli seemed to enjoy it anyway, always touching and caressing him. Oh well, maybe this beast had some kind of peculiar preference!

The next day, after a few days of going without, Lin Shuishi decided to cook a proper meal and indulge.

Just in time, the beans in the garden were ripe and ready to be picked. He asked Fuli to hunt a wild boar, and once it was cleaned and prepared, he took a slab of pork belly and a rack of ribs to make a feast.

Lin Shuishi eagerly lit the stove, fed it with a few thick logs, then scooped out a spoonful of lard, adding a spoonful of honey to caramelize. When the caramel reached just the right color, he added a large bowl of blanched pork belly, sautéing it until it was slightly crispy. He added some scallions and salt for flavor, then poured in water to let it simmer.

In just a short time, the aroma of the braised pork filled the entire wolf den, making the wolf pups drool with hunger, and even the white wolves turned their attention to it.

Lin Shuishi, confident, opened the pot to take a whiff, but suddenly, the smell hit him hard. His face turned pale, and he quickly turned his head to the side, vomiting.

Fuli was down by the river, carefully washing animal hides, when a young white wolf came rushing over in a panic. The wolf was too young to communicate clearly, and Fuli’s heart tightened. His muscles tensed as he immediately transformed into a giant white wolf, speeding back to the den.

Leaping up the slope in a single bound, the giant wolf rushed straight to Lin Shuishi. He found his beloved surrounded by several large wolves, who were anxiously sniffing him as Lin Shuishi clutched the pot lid, vomiting violently.

Fuli quickly shifted back into human form, grabbing hold of Lin Shuishi, who was swaying unsteadily, his heart pounding with worry.

“What happened? Hmm?” he asked, pressing his face close to Lin Shuishi to sniff for any signs of danger.

Fuli’s coarse braids slipped from his broad back to Lin Shuishi’s neck as he bent down, the sensation soothing Lin Shuishi’s delicate neck. The familiar scent of Fuli calmed him down, and his churning stomach finally began to settle.

Leaning against Fuli, Lin Shuishi took a deep breath of his scent, then pointed weakly at the pot of meat, his face still pale. “I think it’s poisoned or something. Just the smell makes me want to vomit. Take it away!”

Fuli sniffed the braised pork—there was no poison, it actually smelled quite good.

But seeing how unwell Lin Shuishi was, he quickly took the pot away and fed the meat to the wolves. Seeing that Lin Shuishi was still feeling nauseous, he returned to the den and fetched a flower filled with sweet nectar, which Lin Shuishi sipped on, finally bringing some relief.

However, this was just the beginning. Lin Shuishi was about to embark on a long journey of morning sickness.

When Lin Shuishi’s face turned pale from retching yet again, Fuli, normally so calm and composed, began to grow anxious, resting his ear against Lin Shuishi’s chest to listen to his heartbeat. He was already preparing to take Lin Shuishi down the mountain to find a “doctor” among the humans.

As Lin Shuishi struggled to suppress the urge to vomit, Fuli, now agitated and partially in beast form with sharp fangs bared, fretted over him.

Lin Shuishi, feeling nauseous but otherwise okay, tried to reassure him. “It’s nothing, maybe I just ate something bad. I’ll be fine once I’ve thrown it all up. It could be that the beans weren’t cooked through—” He broke off, retching again.

Fuli clenched his fists, the veins on his forehead bulging. “Wolves giving birth have never been like this. You… We need to go down the mountain…”

Before he could finish, Lin Shuishi suddenly looked up, his voice breaking with shock, “Giving birth? What… what did you say?!”

Fuli looked at Lin Shuishi in confusion. Didn’t female beasts usually sense it first? When a she-wolf was pregnant, she would always prepare everything in advance for a safe delivery.

Lin Shuishi grabbed Fuli’s shoulders, “Say that again!” As he recalled his body’s recent changes, his heart began to race.

Fuli gently placed his warm hand on Lin Shuishi’s “round belly,” trying to comfort him. “Don’t be afraid. I’ll be with you the whole time.”

The effort of holding himself up suddenly overwhelmed Lin Shuishi, and he collapsed into Fuli’s arms, who gently laid him down on the soft animal pelts.

He didn’t ask any more questions. It all came back to him—he was a “ger.”

He could give birth…

Lin Shuishi lay there, his eyes unfocused, but his hand was tightly gripping Fuli’s hair. He softly spoke a few words.

“Ashina Fuli?”

“Hmm.”

“You bastard.”

Lin Shuishi never imagined he would find himself in this situation. His pregnancy mark had always been faint, so he never paid much attention to it, always considering himself an ordinary man.

Besides, with Fuli and him… shouldn’t there be reproductive isolation?

But after getting past the initial shock and thinking it over, he felt it made sense, and it was actually quite good. He and someone he loved deeply were now expecting a new life together.

Although he was caught off guard, once he calmed down, he was filled with joy and ready to welcome this new chapter.

This child was the continuation of both his and Fuli’s lives, as well as the last continuation of the wolf god’s bloodline.

Fuli lay quietly with Lin Shuishi for half a day until Lin Shuishi suddenly sat up again, speaking mysteriously, “Fuli! I—I think I’ve seen him!”

“Seen who?”

“Him.”

Fuli raised an eyebrow, a smile on his face. “Ugly?”

Lin Shuishi choked, recalling how the little ball of light had tried so hard to protect him that day. He felt both touched and moved.

See! Even before being born, even before I knew you existed, you were already trying so hard to love me.

But then, remembering the little light ball that had struggled to sprout just one tail, he couldn’t help but find it amusing—it was just so cute!

Lin Shuishi glared at Fuli’s teasing expression, then gently rubbed his belly and sincerely apologized.

“I’m sorry! You’re not ugly at all—you’re beautiful and well-behaved, such a good child! I love you so much.”

As Lin Shuishi was smiling with warmth, he suddenly froze. Seeing Fuli’s concern, he stiffly turned his head to speak.

“He—he moved!”

Lin Shuishi was both amazed and joyful; he had felt the little one’s response right there in his belly.

Fuli reached out to feel it, but the little one didn’t respond to him.

Even so, he was delighted. The beast carefully cradled the slender human with the slightly rounded belly in his arms, gently nuzzling him.

A few days later, Fuli insisted on taking Lin Shuishi down the mountain to see a doctor. Lin Shuishi didn’t want to bother Dr. Sun and felt there was nothing seriously wrong, so they decided to visit a bustling town nearby.

The town was lively, with many people coming and going, showing signs of prosperity after the war. Lin Shuishi went to an ordinary clinic to see a doctor. The doctor, an elderly man with skilled hands, performed all the necessary checks—observation, inquiry, palpation, and pulse-taking.

Finally, the doctor stroked his beard and reassured the two of them that there was nothing to worry about. He mentioned that it wasn’t easy for a ger with such a faint pregnancy mark to conceive, so they should take good care of him. He suggested eating sour foods to ease the morning sickness and prescribed some herbal medicine to take home.

After thanking the doctor and paying the fee, Lin Shuishi and Fuli went to collect the medicine. Just as they were about to leave, they overheard some shop assistants excitedly discussing something.

“Wow! You should’ve seen the ceremony. The Emperor personally issued a decree, appointing the Wolf God as the guardian of all the mountains, rivers, and great lakes of the nation, making him the national protector deity. They even designed a mighty totem for it!”

“So, the legend of the Wolf God is true?”

“Of course! My mother prayed to a Wolf God all night and now offers incense daily with utmost devotion!”

Lin Shuishi and Fuli didn’t ask any more questions. With calm expressions, they collected the medicine and left the shop.

As they walked through a secluded forest, Lin Shuishi looked up at Fuli with a radiant smile. The sunlight was perfect, making his smile warm and bright as he playfully bowed with clasped hands in front of the towering mountain spirit that was Fuli.

“Oh, Lord Wolf God, my deepest respects to you,” he said with a grin.

That’s nice of the Emperor to do that. I thought those generals and soldiers would just let the wolf god deed during the war end up as a folklore. And now Fuli is recognized even though he shall remain anonymous ❤️

  2. Still I wonder how long this will last? Depends on the next emperors ig?

If we analyze this objectively, it’s a very clever political move. With a deity protecting the nation, the people will be happier, calmer, and prouder as God’s chosen people, while simultaneously instilling fear in neighboring nations, preventing them from invading
