Ch 44: Those who wronged me are now begging me for mercy

Seeking a Heir with a High Reward

At this point, not only the system but even Rong Ziyin felt like things were getting a bit surreal.

He opened the pink box and found a small bottle of perfume inside.

Rong Ziyin sniffed it but couldn’t detect any distinct scent. Curious, he clicked on the item description to check its specific effects.

Seeking a Heir with a High Reward: This is a divine dew from the bottle of the deity Guanyin. Throughout history, some species have struggled with reproduction. This perfume can enhance the appeal of male creatures, making even the most unattractive exude unparalleled masculinity, successfully attracting female attention and increasing the chances of successful mating.

The system couldn’t help but point out, “Isn’t this basically an aphrodisiac?”

But Rong Ziyin’s focus was elsewhere. “So, Guanyin casually carries around something so inappropriate?”

System: …Maybe they and the Dao took the wrong meds on the same day.

It made so much sense that Rong Ziyin actually agreed with the system’s sarcastic remark.

Thus, without any burden on their minds, they casually bad-mouthed the Heavenly Dao and then fell asleep together, completely missing the notification: Heavenly Dao’s Displeasure Level +1000.

The quiet environment was perfect for sleep.

From the time Rong Ziyin joined the show to the final competition, he had been on the go for more than two weeks. Especially during the last week, aside from the necessary sleep, his brain was constantly running at high speed. Even though he was young and full of energy, this intense workload completely drained him.

But Rong Ziyin was cautious. Before falling asleep, he made sure to pack away the salted duck eggs and salted fish and put them in the closet.

As for the remaining 199 goose eggs, he decided to leave them in the corner. Rong Ziyin planned to later use the incubation equipment in the department’s lab to hatch them.

The veterinary department at Agriculture University recently started a project on ecological livestock farming. Geese, as high producers of down, meat, and eggs, were an essential part of the project.

Based on recent observations of the young geese, Rong Ziyin could tell that the system-provided Anhui geese were top-tier among their kind. Not only were they highly intelligent and expressive, but their down quality and quantity were also exceptional. There was a possibility that through studying these geese’s biological characteristics, he could increase the down yield of ordinary Anhui geese.

Additionally, Rong Ziyin had other tasks for the next day. He wanted to test the new “Seeking a Heir with a High Reward” item to see its actual effects. If it proved effective, he planned to isolate the active components for further study.

With his plan in mind, Rong Ziyin fell asleep.

The next morning, at 6:30 AM, Rong Ziyin woke up on time. After changing clothes and washing up, he headed to the veterinary department’s vegetable plot.

As it happened, someone was already there feeding the geese. Judging by the sounds, it seemed like this person was arguing with the geese.

“Hahaha, you’re bald, you’re all bald,” the person laughed, unrestrained due to the lack of others around.

The geese, not to be outdone, extended their necks and pecked at the person after a brief standoff.

“You’re bald! Your whole family is bald!”

The half-grown geese, when united, had the fighting power of a medium-sized hunting dog. Initially, the person seemed unfazed, but within a minute, they were retreating, hastily jumping out of the vegetable plot to escape.

As the morning breeze blew, a black toupee floated off the person’s head and gently landed on the ground. Rong Ziyin, eyeing the shiny scalp, quickly recognized the goose feeder as the head of the veterinary department.

Rong Ziyin thought for a moment, then picked up the toupee and called out, “Director, your toupee fell off.”

Early in the morning, this shout was quite penetrating. Instantly, the attention of everyone around—the joggers, the sweepers, and those heading to the cafeteria—was focused on the department head.

The director, bewildered, touched his head, saw the toupee in Rong Ziyin’s hand, and snatched it back in a fit of anger before storming off. He muttered to himself, wondering how this troublemaker could be so infuriating, just like the geese he raised.

Anger Level: 1000

Listening to the system’s prompt, Rong Ziyin followed behind the director, offering a word of consolation, “Don’t be angry. Honestly, it doesn’t matter if people see it. Everyone already knows.”

The director was silent for three seconds, then suddenly felt the urge to cover his face and run away in tears. No wonder the forum always had people talking about putting a bag over Rong Ziyin’s head—this guy was really annoying!

Watching the director’s retreating figure, Rong Ziyin shook his head and sighed, “As expected, still going strong!”

Hearing this from a distance, the director stumbled in his steps.

Nonsense! I’m clearly only forty-eight this year!

Anger Level: 2000

Thus, fueled by the early-morning “energy” provided by Rong Ziyin, the director sat in the cafeteria and devoured two large bowls of cornmeal porridge with the salted duck eggs made by Rong Ziyin. His appetite was quite impressive.

Meanwhile, after checking on the geese, Rong Ziyin headed towards another area—the rabbit cage.

This was the experiment subject Rong Ziyin had thought of the night before.

Behind the veterinary department’s experimental building, there was a large area where various small animals were kept. These animals were not just for experimentation but also for observation.

As a veterinarian, regardless of the future career path—whether as a pet doctor, in immunology, or animal husbandry—one must first be familiar with the habits of common species.

Agricultural University’s veterinary department emphasized growth through practice. To this end, the department even established an animal clinic at a branch campus.

Every year, a large number of veterinary students are sent there for practical training. The department also rescues and keeps some animals on campus to help students better understand their ecology, ensuring they don’t graduate only to rely on textbooks for everything.

The rabbit Rong Ziyin approached today was one of the most typical cases.

It was a particularly beautiful Angora rabbit, with long, white fur that was fluffy and soft. Before the arrival of the goslings, it had long held the title of the veterinary department’s top mascot.

Its only flaw was that, despite being nearly two years old, it had shown no signs of going into heat. Not only that, but it also seemed to reject all males.

Previously, someone had even brought their handsome male rabbit for a “date,” but every time, the male rabbit would end up with bites.

As a joke, Rong Ziyin’s mentor had once assigned a project titled “Investigating the Delayed Sexual Maturity in Rabbits.”

Surprisingly, after actually researching it in groups, they found that this Angora rabbit had already reached sexual maturity. The lack of heat might just be due to simple disinterest or, in other words, an absence of attraction to the male rabbits.

Coincidentally, another person had brought a male rabbit for a “date” with it today. The male rabbit was currently in a neighboring cage, allowing them to get used to each other’s scent.

After a brief observation, Rong Ziyin noted that the male rabbit was also a very handsome Angora rabbit. Its silver-gray back fur looked quite noble. By human standards, they seemed like a perfect match.

So why did the female rabbit not find it attractive?

Curious, Rong Ziyin closely observed the female rabbit. Sure enough, the female rabbit had a row of thoughts above its head: “Tch! Short-legged guy.”

So, it was because she found him too short?

After observing for a while longer, Rong Ziyin realized that the female rabbit truly was dismissive of the male due to his height.

On the other hand, the male rabbit was completely smitten, sticking close to the cage bars, gazing longingly at the female rabbit.

Rong Ziyin thought that being a hopeless romantic these days wasn’t easy.

So, he sprayed a bit of the “Seeking a Heir with a High Reward” liquid onto the male rabbit. After that, Rong Ziyin stepped back, set up his phone to record, and noted the time.

The result was truly magical.

Contrary to the system’s initial assumption that the liquid would act like an aphrodisiac, it seemed to enhance the male animal’s attractiveness in the eyes of the opposite sex.

For example, the female rabbit, who had previously been dismissive of his short legs, was now completely captivated by his beautiful fur.

The female rabbit even shyly moved closer to him.

“He’s… kind of handsome,” the female rabbit clearly having her heart stirred.

The male rabbit, having been pining for her all this time, was overjoyed to finally get a response. It eagerly gnawed at the cage, desperate to jump over and consummate the relationship.

But Rong Ziyin didn’t let them be together.

System: They’re ready to mate, yet you’re stopping them?

Rong Ziyin: I’m checking how long the drug’s effects last. Besides, forcing things isn’t good; love should be free, not influenced by drugs.

System: Then what was that you just used?

Rong Ziyin: That was for increasing mating success rates, purely for scientific research.

With that, Rong Ziyin seriously continued to observe the two rabbits. After half an hour, once he estimated the “Seeking a Heir with a High Reward” effect had worn off, the female rabbit quickly snapped out of it, kicked the male rabbit dismissively, and returned to her corner to groom herself.

What was I thinking earlier? Why would I want to be with a short-legged guy?

The male rabbit, heartbroken and doubly rejected, curled up into a ball in the corner, utterly despondent.

Rong Ziyin sighed, “What a tragedy!”

System, now numb to it all, responded, “And isn’t it a tragedy of your making?”

Rong Ziyin: “Nonsense. It’s the male rabbit’s fault for not seizing the opportunity.”

This hit the male rabbit right where it hurt, and it curled up further, losing its appetite for the grass at its feet.

But Rong Ziyin wasn’t done yet. He took the “Seeking a Heir with a High Reward” to several other cages.

That day, the entire veterinary department felt the full brunt of what it meant to be a miserable single. Even Rong Ziyin’s bald, molting geese were suddenly being coddled by peacocks as if they were the most adorable creatures, making the older, still single guys feel all the more wretched.

So, what was going on? Why were all these animals suddenly pairing up?

The veterinary students had no clue and attributed it to the weather.

By this point, Rong Ziyin had extracted a small portion of the liquid from the “Seeking a Heir with a High Reward” and placed it in a dish to analyze its components.

His initial discovery was that it contained pheromones.

In simple terms, pheromones are signaling chemicals. Back in 1959, scientist Peter Carlson discovered these hormones, and over the years, as science advanced, pheromones have indeed made significant contributions to biology.

It was only after acquiring the “Seeking a Heir with a High Reward” that Rong Ziyin realized pheromones could be used in the breeding of mammals. They not only increase attraction between sexes but can also enhance the chances of successful mating and pregnancy.

If the mechanism behind these pheromones could be understood, it might solve the breeding challenges faced by some rare species.

The biggest challenge, however, was figuring out how to synthesize these pheromones.

Rong Ziyin spent a month and a half in the lab. Using the original formula as a guide, he managed to create a bottle of a similar drug. Now, he wanted to test it out.

This time, though, his subjects wouldn’t be rabbits but the llamas currently under a breeding program at the institute.

Rong Ziyin took his concoction and headed to the llama enclosure, only to find a crowd gathered there.

Not paying much attention, he went straight into the pen. He used a small portion of the drug and began observing the llamas.

After setting up a camera in a spot where it wouldn’t be obstructed, he started taking notes. Just then, someone walked up behind him and bumped into him. Instinctively, Rong Ziyin dodged, causing some of the liquid to spill onto the person’s pants.

“Hey, watch where you’re going! You startled me,” the person scolded Rong Ziyin.

Rong Ziyin first looked at the person’s wet pant leg, then glanced at the llamas in the pen, who were starting to get restless. He sympathetically patted the person’s shoulder, “You’ll be really startled in a minute.”

With that, Rong Ziyin quickly left the scene.

The person was left puzzled by Rong Ziyin’s cryptic comment. Then he heard the sound of animals approaching. Turning around, he was met with the deep, affectionate gazes of several female llamas.
