Ch 91: The Malevolent Monster Just Wants To Farm

These words perfectly struck at the Dragon King’s weak spot.

By the time Jiang Lin left the Dragon Palace, the Dragon King had already sent secret messages to the other Dragon Kings.

As for Jiang Lin, he returned to his palace and instructed Huaiyin and the others to carry out a task.

He had to thank the Heavenly Court for their arrogance and their rule that “one day in heaven equals a year on earth.” Even if that golden-armored god returned to lodge a complaint, the time it would take for the Heavenly Court to send down more soldiers was enough for Jiang Lin to accomplish quite a bit.

Following the Heavenly Court’s tactics, a new rumor quickly spread through Chentang Pass.

The rumor said that the Heavenly Court had abandoned Chentang Pass and had no intention of helping them. In other words, rain would never come to Chentang Pass.

However, the East Sea Dragon Clan could bring rain.

Driven to desperation, the people of Chentang Pass began to gather at the shores of the East Sea to pray for rain.

“Sir, we’ve followed your instructions and spread the news throughout Chentang Pass. Now, many people have been waiting by the East Sea for days,” reported Huaiyin.

Jiang Lin nodded. “Good.”

Qingluo, feeling a bit sympathetic, asked, “Daddy, will you bring them rain? The people are suffering so much.”

Jiang Lin patted her head and said, “I will, but they’ll have to wait a little longer.”

A glimmer of hope in a desperate situation is all the more precious.

Jiang Lin didn’t consider himself a good person. He wasn’t helping the mortals out of kindness; he was making a deal with them.

By protecting these mortals, he aimed to use their fortune to avert disaster.

Half a month later, the Third Prince of the Dragon Clan appeared by the shores of the East Sea.

The desperate people of Chentang Pass pleaded with him, “Third Prince, please save us!”

“If it doesn’t rain soon, we really won’t survive.”

Jiang Lin spoke softly, “I’ve mentioned before that the Dragon Clan requires the Heavenly Court’s decree to bring rain. If I bring rain on my own, the Heavenly Court will sentence me to death.”

As soon as he said this, many people’s expressions shifted, and others looked ashamed.

It wasn’t surprising; in any group, there would always be selfish individuals. Even knowing that the Dragon Clan would be punished for bringing rain, many would still choose their own survival over others’.

“Very well,” Jiang Lin said with a carefree smile. “Chentang Pass has worshipped the Dragon King’s temple for many years, and the Dragon Clan should protect your peace.”

He smiled and said loudly, “Today’s actions are mine alone and have nothing to do with the East Sea Dragon Clan!”

He turned to look at the mortals gazing up at him and said with a smile, “If Ao Bing is punished one day, I hope you all will plead on my behalf before the Heavenly Court.”

After saying this, he didn’t wait to see the people’s reactions. He transformed into his dragon form, let out a long cry, and soared into the clouds.

In just a moment, the sky darkened, and the sound of rolling thunder echoed.

The silver-white divine dragon rolled through the clouds, occasionally revealing its majestic form.

Plop.

Large raindrops began to fall on the people gathered by the sea.

They stared in disbelief at the long-awaited rain.

Jiang Lin had even infused the rain with a touch of the spiritual energy from the Nine Spirits Technique. The parched soil quickly absorbed the moisture, and beneath the barren land, seeds of life were quietly taking root.

Somewhere in the crowd, a voice called out, “Thank you, Third Prince, for saving us!”

The cry was quickly taken up by others.

Everyone knelt in the rain, gazing up at the divine dragon in the sky.

The rain over Chentang Pass lasted for three days.

Such an event couldn’t escape the notice of the Heavenly Court.

When they heard that Ao Bing had essentially sought his own death by defying the Heavenly Court’s authority, they weren’t enraged by his disobedience. On the contrary, they were delighted. They dispatched a grand force of celestial soldiers and generals to descend upon Chentang Pass.

On that day, a massive, dark cloud of celestial soldiers filled the sky above Chentang Pass, blotting out the sun, and countless mortals witnessed the spectacle.

The Heavenly Court anticipated resistance from the East Sea, but to their surprise, the Third Prince emerged alone, cooperating without resistance.

The lead god sneered, mocking the Dragon Clan, seeing this as proof that they had truly lost their spirit, reduced to cowardice and weakness.

Jiang Lin finally witnessed the legendary South Heaven Gate and the Lingxiao Palace.

On the high throne sat two divine figures whose appearances were obscured.

He was forced to his knees.

Jiang Lin spoke calmly, “I am a direct descendant of the Dragon Ancestor. Do you really think you can bear the weight of forcing me to kneel unwillingly?”

“Impudent child!” thundered the figure on the throne, his voice rolling like thunder. “Take him to the execution platform and sentence him to beheading!”

Various gazes were cast upon him from both sides.

Some were puzzled, some mocking, and some filled with ridicule.

A few deities, seeing how Jiang Lin remained composed even in such a dire situation, felt a rare admiration, though they dared not express it openly.

Jiang Lin wasn’t truly unafraid of death.

On the contrary, he very much did not want to die.

His calm demeanor was due to the fact that he knew he was merely completing a task.

He was betting—betting on a hypothesis of his own.

If he won, many problems could be resolved.

If he lost, he had prepared a backup plan.

Even though it would make things much more difficult, he wasn’t about to meekly offer his neck for slaughter.

The execution platform’s gleaming guillotine shone with a chilling light.

The executioner was Juling Shen, an old god of the Heavenly Court, who looked at Jiang Lin with a sigh. “Third Prince, why did you resist the mandate of heaven and end up in such a state for the sake of insignificant mortals?”

He was a veteran deity who had witnessed the Dragon Clan’s former glory, and he couldn’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia.

Jiang Lin smiled slightly and asked, “In your eyes, mortals are nothing more than ants, tools, is that it?”

Juling Shen responded in his deep, resonant voice, “Whatever they are, they’re certainly not worth sacrificing yourself for.”

Jiang Lin thought to himself: But whether or not the Third Prince defied the Heavenly Court, those gods still intended to put him on this execution platform.

He didn’t speak further, closing his eyes to rest.

Seeing this, Juling Shen said nothing more and quietly prepared to carry out the execution.

“The time has come,” Juling Shen suddenly announced.

He turned to Jiang Lin and said, “Rest assured, Third Prince, my blade is swift. You won’t feel any pain.”

“Thank you, but hearing that doesn’t exactly make me feel any better,” Jiang Lin replied.

Juling Shen said no more and raised his blade high.

The cold gleam of the blade flashed before Jiang Lin’s eyes.

His expression remained calm, but his hand hidden in his sleeve formed a secret spell.

Just in case…

“Hmm?” Juling Shen paused.

Jiang Lin breathed a sigh of relief.

“Why… why can’t I bring down my blade?” Juling Shen exclaimed in shock as he stared at the sword in his hand.

Jiang Lin turned his head slightly, channeling the power of the Nine Spirits Technique into his eyes.

He could see fine, golden threads as thin as hair converging from the heavens, continuously flowing toward him, forming a barrier in front of him.

—Blocking Juling Shen’s blade.

Looking down, below the sea of clouds, was the humble and unremarkable Chentang Pass, a place the Heavenly Court had always overlooked.

He had won the bet.

Had to reread the last few paragraphs. . . I thought it was little Zong, a taotei, clad in black robes who came to save the damsel in distress 😭 (changed the hero to a taotei and white horse to black robes 😹)
