The VIP lounge buzzed with chatter for over half an hour. Once all the procedures were completed, it was time to board. The team noisily grabbed their simple luggage, leaving the larger suitcases to be handled by the staff. China’s team, however, did not receive such luxury. They were not given the worst rooms, but the allocation was clearly unfair.

“Sorry, but the rooms are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Since you arrived late, the upper floor rooms were already taken…” The hotel manager feigned regret, though his eyes betrayed his disdain.

China had faced such treatment countless times internationally. Despite some improvements, condescension remained. Many in the West still viewed China as underdeveloped.

The Chinese team was understandably upset, but the situation worsened when they were confronted by a group of young people with varied skin, hair, and eye colors who emerged from the elevator.

“Oh, isn’t this the Chinese team? They have the nerve to join the competition again. Are they here to show us another early exit?”

The group mocked them loudly in English, drawing the attention of other teams and sparking curiosity and amusement. The previous international tech competition had not been widely known among the general public, but this time, the competition had been heavily promoted. The first competition hadn’t been live-streamed, but recordings existed, and China’s early elimination had become well-known, fueling the current derision.

Competitors from various countries enjoyed seeing their rivals squabble and lose face.

Fang Ziyang, however, remained calm. He’d faced worse and wouldn’t let petty provocations get to him. He turned to the team, “Let’s not get distracted. We have a competition to win.”
