The Hawk

Lu Li asked gently, trying not to scare the young guide. The boy was too young and beautiful, perhaps not even an adult yet?

Su He was pinned against the wall, bearing the full weight of the sentinel. Just from the contact, his body experienced intense pleasure. He heard the other man ask for his name and initially didn’t want to answer, but the emptiness within urged him on. Trembling, he responded, “Su… Su He.”

“Su He, huh? Remember my name, Lu Li.”

Su He didn’t want to remember that name at all. His body’s reactions were becoming increasingly intense. He could feel Lu Li’s excitement… and his own. He wanted to break free, but his body seemed to have a mind of its own, tilting his head back.

The pose was like an invitation. Lu Li pressed his face against Su He’s neck, gently licking it. He couldn’t control the urge to mark Su He with his scent, to merge their scents together.

Lu Li’s actions rendered all of Su He’s struggles ineffective. Defeated, he chose to surrender to his instincts. He felt Lu Li’s hand slip inside his clothes. As their skin made contact, his mental world filled with joy, a blend of sweetness and satisfaction.

Lu Li’s reaction was even stronger than Su He’s. He had never found touch to be so wonderful. The sensation under his hand was soft, like the finest silk or expensive porcelain. He wanted to describe his feelings with all the beautiful words he could think of. It seemed his 26 years of loneliness had been leading to this moment. Lu Li let out a satisfied sigh. Just holding the guide in his arms brought an indescribable sweetness. The throbbing inside him was so intense it felt like he might explode. He desperately tried to control himself, restricting his actions to just touching and kissing. The last shred of his rationality reminded him that the guide in his arms deserved the best in the world. He couldn’t mark him here.

Both of them were lost in the heat of the moment. Just as Su He thought he would bond with Lu Li right there, his wrist terminal sounded. The half-hour mark had passed, and Han Rui was beginning to worry about Su He.

“Su He, Su He.”

Han Rui’s voice brought a tiny bit of reason back to Su He. Unconsciously, he began to circulate his inner cultivation technique. A gentle power slowly flowed through his body, gradually suppressing the burning heat. Su He’s mind cleared, and he did something crazy—he smeared Lu Li’s face with mud.

The foul smell quickly invaded his senses, jolting Lu Li out of his frenzy. The guide in his arms looked at him with wide eyes, showing both fear and confusion. Lu Li felt as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over him. He struggled to let go and took a step back, rolling up his sleeve and quickly injecting himself with a guide suppressant.

The guide suppressant was one of the military’s greatest inventions. It was a special drug that simulated the pheromones emitted by guides, effectively calming sentinels and preventing them from going berserk. For the past 26 years, Lu Li had relied on the suppressant to stabilize his senses and mental world. He had never imagined encountering such a situation, nor had he thought he would almost force a guide, becoming the type of sentinel he despised the most.

Lu Li took deep breaths, forcing himself to move his gaze away from Su He. “I’m sorry,” he said softly.

Su He was too shocked to respond.

The guide suppressant quickly took effect. Though it couldn’t completely suppress his excitement, Lu Li’s self-control finally returned. He took off his jacket and draped it over Su He, covering the disheveled state he had left him in. Su He tried to dodge, but he couldn’t avoid it. Lu Li’s gaze moved from Su He’s face to his neck, remembering the touch of the delicate and sweet skin.

“Are you okay?” Lu Li asked.

Su He glared at him warily, slowly shaking his head.

Lu Li wanted to say more, but the aftereffects of the bonding heat troubled him. He couldn’t stay here any longer; one dose of the suppressant was not enough to quell his agitation. After confirming that Su He was mentally clear and physically unharmed, Lu Li knew he had to leave. “Hide, and don’t run around,” he warned in a low voice. He needed to get far away from Su He to avoid going into a second frenzy. The surrounding area was filled with Su He’s sweet and tempting scent. Another round of exposure… Lu Li didn’t dare think further and quickly turned to leave.

Su He watched Lu Li’s retreating back, feeling strangely uncomfortable.

Wait!

Su He ruthlessly pushed the thought out of his mind, wrapping Lu Li’s jacket around himself and sitting down. His body was still warm, but the lingering scent of Lu Li on the jacket soothed him. Everything that had just happened was about to shatter Su He’s worldview. The mere thought of his behavior made him wish he could erase the memory from his mind, preferably along with Lu Li’s.

“Su He.”

Han Rui’s voice grew more urgent, worried that something had happened to Su He.

Snapping back to reality, Su He realized he had spent too much time thinking about Lu Li. Damn! He cursed under his breath, pushing Lu Li’s image out of his mind. There was no way he would fall in love with a man at first sight!

Lu Li’s sudden appearance shocked not only Su He but also Han Rui.

When Su He connected his terminal, Han Rui’s eyes reddened instantly. Su He realized he was still wearing Lu Li’s jacket and quickly explained that he was fine, just had a little mishap. To prove he was unharmed and not taken advantage of, Su He emphasized how he had smeared mud all over Lu Li’s face.

He spoke lightly, but Han Rui was uneasy, feeling it couldn’t be that simple. He didn’t believe a sentinel would let a guide go during bonding unless there was another plot. Recognizing the jacket as a Federation military uniform, Han Rui wondered why the Federation military was on Brokestar. Growing increasingly suspicious, he hurriedly told Su He to return to the underground world so they could be ready to flee.

Su He also felt that the 36th ruins were becoming unsafe. However, since they were preparing to leave, he couldn’t just abandon the array he had set up. After tidying his clothes, Su He decided to take Lu Li’s jacket with him and cautiously returned to the room where he had set up the array. Just as he entered, a massive black hawk descended from above, landing quietly at the window and staring at him.

Su He: “…”

The hawk was obviously a spirit animal, but strangely, Su He didn’t fear it. He vaguely felt a weak connection to the hawk, and the messages it conveyed reassured him. It was a peculiar feeling; through the hawk, Su He sensed Lu Li’s presence and realized that this hawk was likely Lu Li’s.

Curious, Su He studied the hawk. From the lynx to Han Rui’s rabbit and his own little sprout, it seemed everyone’s spirit animal was different. How exactly were spirit animals formed? Was it really based on their owner’s personality, as Han Rui had said? Then Lu Li…

I’m glad Lu Li managed to suppress his sentinel instincts because I would prefer that they bond after Su He falls in love with him. I never thought Lu Li would send his spirit animal to watch over him, though, lol.

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
