So I decided to only do ten chapters for now. There will be a poll at the end of the ten chapters. Please vote. If you folks like this novel, yours beloved translator (me ..😁) will continue translating. If not, I’ll find another one. Love y’all 😚

Hi, I’m Su He. So nice to meet you ☺️

Sentinel

The sky was gray, with two large spheres hanging in the air, emitting a bleak light.

A strong wind swept across the land, carrying sand and stones, roaring like a sinister face, striking fear into anyone who heard it. This was a desolate desert, with sharp rocks and blood-red sand as far as the eye could see. Occasionally, rusty steel bars protruded from the ground, resembling the fangs of demons.

In the distance, a ruined city gradually came into view. Collapsed buildings and broken metal structures stood like a silent metal forest amidst the land.

At the entrance to the ruins, a two-meter-long Kolora beast leaped out from behind a concrete barrier, sniffing the air for food.

The Kolora beast is the most common dark creature in the area. It has earth-brown skin covered with dense scales, a single horn on its forehead, and small, heavily degenerated front claws. Its hind legs, however, are exceptionally strong and powerful. If not for the horn, the Kolora beast would resemble a T-Rex, complete with a thick tail.

Not far from the Kolora beast, Su He lay prone, holding his breath, his eyes fixed on the beast’s neck, the most vulnerable part of its body. Having not had a proper meal for 15 hours, Su He’s body craved meat intensely.

The Kolora beast, unaware of Su He’s presence, moved in his direction. Now was the time! Seizing the moment, Su He flipped up, grabbed the beast’s horn with his left hand, and swiftly mounted it. His right hand, holding a dagger, slashed silently at the beast’s lower jaw, releasing a spray of blood. The beast let out a final wail before collapsing.

Avoiding the blood spray, Su He slid off the beast’s body, satisfied with the clean kill. He sheathed his dagger and approached his prey.

Just as he was about to skin the beast, a powerful, searing emotion that could melt him enveloped him. He turned sharply, his pupils contracting, and upon seeing the figure emerging from the ruins, he grabbed his backpack and fled.

“Damn it.”

Su He cursed under his breath as he ran. He had no idea what the figure was, resembling a lynx but much larger. It was a mental entity, not physical. If it were just a lynx-like mental entity, Su He wouldn’t be afraid, but it was controlled by a man Su He desperately wanted to avoid.

This man left a “deep” impression on Su He when they first met. Although initially delighted to meet another human, Su He soon realized the man’s intentions were possessive and aggressive.

The man’s emotions felt like a hungry wolf eyeing its prey, making Su He very uncomfortable. He barely escaped the man’s grasp and had been on the run ever since. Despite believing he had eluded the man several times, the appearance of the mental entity proved him wrong.

Avoiding the open wilderness, Su He turned towards another direction in the ruins, hoping the collapsed buildings would hinder the lynx and the man chasing him.

Running for an unknown amount of time, Su He lost sight of the lynx entity but still sensed the man’s presence. This confirmed the man was still following him.

“Here.”

A hurried voice called out as Su He ducked into a collapsed building. A slender figure emerged from the shadows, gesturing to Su He. Despite initial hesitation, the figure’s friendly emotions reassured Su He, and he followed the figure.

The new companion, who appeared about Su He’s age but much thinner, led him deeper into the ruins. Eventually, they came upon a pool of unknown sludge.

“Your turn,” the companion said after rolling in the sludge, explaining it would mask their scent from the sentinel.

Su He grimaced but followed suit, knowing the terrible smell was a small price to pay for safety.

“Follow me.”

The new companion expressed appreciation for Su He’s actions, pulling him along deeper into the ruins. After circling around again, the companion stopped and looked at Su He, “Alright, we’ve run far enough, we should be safe now.” He smiled kindly, “My name is Han Rui, and like you, I’m a guide.”

Su He: “I’m Su He… What’s a guide?”

Han Rui: “…”

They stared at each other, Han Rui looking at Su He in disbelief. His emotions were so obvious that Su He didn’t need to sense them to perceive his astonishment.

“You don’t know?”

Su He honestly nodded.

“What about a sentinel?”

Su He hesitated, feeling that Han Rui would understand better if he figured it out himself.

“…,” Han Rui seemed perplexed, “Which settlement are you from? Didn’t anyone explain these things?”

Su He had no idea how to answer that question. To be precise, he came from a small town at the foot of Zhongnan Mountain in Huaxia, Earth, and had been here for a week. A week ago, he was still debating whether to follow his master’s dying wish to find the family who abandoned him in Zhongjing. Before he could decide, everything changed overnight. Just like in the movies, countless alien beasts suddenly appeared in the sky over Earth. They treated humans as food, killing mercilessly. Su He used his agility to protect some neighbors and escape into Zhongnan Mountain, only to encounter more advanced beasts, leading him inexplicably to this place.

Su He suspected this was no longer Earth, evident by the two spheres hanging in the sky. He was unsure if revealing his origins would cause problems, so the best approach was to say nothing.

Seeing Su He’s expression, Han Rui understandingly didn’t press further. Instead, Su He asked, “Is a sentinel a profession? Was the person chasing me a sentinel?”

Han Rui nodded, then shook his head. Su He’s ignorance baffled him, as knowledge of sentinels and guides was basic in the Galactic Federation. Though puzzled, Han Rui patiently explained, “A sentinel isn’t a profession but a term for people with extraordinary abilities. They generally have heightened senses and can see, hear, taste, smell, and feel things beyond the reach of ordinary people, making them quite powerful.”

“And what about guides?”

“Guides are like us; physically ordinary, but we gain powerful mental abilities after awakening. Su He, you can sense my emotions, right? That’s a manifestation of mental strength.”

Though Han Rui’s explanation was simple, Su He found it confusing. He did have a form of mental strength, but it wasn’t from an awakening as Han Rui described, but from years of cultivation. On Earth, Su He wasn’t an ordinary person; he was a rare cultivator. His sect traced its lineage to the ancient Shen Nong, one of the Three Sovereigns. Although it declined over the centuries due to dwindling spiritual energy, Su He and his master preserved their core planting techniques. Su He, with his exceptional talent, cultivated strong mental strength from a young age.

Uncertain if his mental strength was the same as Han Rui described, Su He realized he could indeed sense Han Rui’s emotions. This ability seemed unrelated to his sect, emerging only after arriving here. Could this be the awakening Han Rui mentioned?

Su He’s mind was full of questions. He recalled an important one, “Why was the sentinel trying to capture me?” Though the man’s behavior suggested the answer, Su He hoped it was all a misunderstanding.

Han Rui: “…because sentinels can’t live without guides. Although sentinels are powerful, they suffer many side effects and need the mental comfort and stability that guides provide. Typically, sentinels and guides pair up as partners. However, due to the scarcity of guides, many sentinels are without one. If they find an unbonded guide, they’ll mark them immediately.”

“…,” Su He struggled, “But that sentinel seemed to be a man?”

Han Rui was indifferent to gender, “Sentinel-guide bonding is about compatibility, not gender. Moreover, a desperate sentinel won’t give a guide the right to be picky about gender.”

Su He: “…”

He felt the malice of the universe.

Oooohh a new novel 🤔 well BL and planting genre is my cup of tea so I’ll be looking forward to it. I’ll like it first and read it when I wake up… It’s already 3:56 in early morn and I haven’t gone to bed yet 😂

    1. Thingyan says:

Strongly suggest going to bed lol or wake up already idk 😂

        😂

      2. Elli says:

Awake… Though still sleepy. In the end I was only able to sleep around 5

Ohhh it’s a sentinel x guide kind of world. I don’t have a good impression of this kind of world settings since the last one I’ve read makes me want to punch every single one of them. I got curious cuz it’s new then found out that there’s 4 sentinels aka 4 tops with only 1 bottom. I was like 😫 I didn’t know

The main ML is broken… Then the MC also became broken now I just want to set both of them on fire (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻ (just sharing)

    1. Thingyan says:

4 against one? That’s just asking to be put into hospital. It sounds like a trash novel lol.

Normally I don’t like interstellar or sentinel/guide novels but it’s so hard to find good novels these days to translate that haven’t been translated yet 😫

      1. Elli says:

Hahahahaha my thoughts exactly ! It’s manhwa actually… Don’t know if they did an adaptation or it’s straight up manhwa

I have actually come across sentinel/guide before this 4 sentinels-1 guide but it was in a quick (?) transmigration novel… They didn’t really go much deeper on the details so I forgot a world (settings) like that actually existed and cuz the MC died early… More like out of- I think 15 worlds, he only survived once where he was able to live till old age 😂 it was a Chinese novel

I remembered it when I was reading the 4th chapter of our plant cultivator

  3. Thingyan says:

Would you be interested in like apocalypse BL?

  4. M&M's says:

An interesting start to this novel, especially since Su He is capable of killing beasts on his own; I like that he isn’t weak or incapable.

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
