Ch 57 (Part 2): Rebirth of the Tool Man in a Pampered Protagonist Novel

Grandpa Li was a somewhat thin old man.

Ming Bai was a spirited young man, around twenty-four or twenty-five years old. His features were not as outstanding as Xie Zheng or Tang Xun, but he had a decent appearance with thick eyebrows and big eyes, emitting a positive and sunny aura.

When he saw Fang Ziyang, Ming Bai showed great excitement and happiness.

“Hello, I’m Ming Bai. You must be Fang Ziyang, right? Li Xiao told me about you, and I promise, I promise! I’m willing to be tested however you want in the field of traditional Chinese medicine. As long as it’s related to traditional Chinese medicine, I have no problem!”

Talking about it made Ming Bai feel genuinely bitter.

When he was young, he studied traditional Chinese medicine with Grandpa Li, and his speed in recognizing medicinal ingredients and memorizing medicine formulas was incredibly fast. His family praised him as a genius! He was quite proud of it, secretly thinking that he might be a genius.

However, the reality turned out to be cruel after he entered school.

Although his memory and comprehension were good, he felt like he had learned what the teachers taught him. But after taking exams, his grades were so discouraging.

It wasn’t that his grades were truly terrible; they were just average for ordinary students. However, compared to his genius performance in the study of medicine, the difference was truly significant.

And now, society is different from before. It’s not like you can become a doctor just by saying you have good medical skills.

Without a degree and a medical license, no matter how good your medical skills are, it’s illegal to practice medicine! Except for the trust of neighbors and relatives, without a nationally recognized credential, you’re just a fraud!

No matter how much Grandpa Li insists on being a legitimate successor of imperial physicians, if he can’t get into medical school and can’t obtain a traditional Chinese medicine license, it’s all in vain.

And even after obtaining the license, he would still need connections and relationships to find a job at a hospital!

In short, in modern society, without a diploma, even if you’re the reincarnation of Hua Tuo, it’s not easy to make a living.

Fang Ziyang naturally understood Ming Bai’s predicament.

He wasn’t really concerned about Ming Bai’s current level of traditional Chinese medicine. After all, Ming Bai had potential. Even if it would take several more years for Ming Bai to become effective, Fang Ziyang didn’t mind spending some salary to recruit him in advance.

It was to prevent Yan Tong from snatching away his talents again.

So Fang Ziyang wasn’t too harsh. He handed over a prepared prescription with a smile and said, “I don’t have many requirements. As long as you, Ming Bai, can perfectly substitute all the herbs that cannot be found in this prescription with the herbs currently available, then from now on, you will be the core research and development member of our company.”

The salary and benefits of a core research and development member in a big company didn’t need to be mentioned; everyone knew they wouldn’t be meager.

Ming Bai was pleasantly surprised, “Really?”

Finding alternative herbs for prescriptions was something he had done a lot. After all, the current environment was not favorable, and many herbs mentioned in the ancient prescriptions of the Li family were either extinct or too expensive. It was normal to find substitute herbs.

He and Grandpa Li had spent many years researching alternative ingredients for their ancient prescriptions, so he was very familiar with this kind of thing.

“Really, but don’t get too excited, Ming Bai. This prescription is not easy to handle,” Fang Ziyang reminded him.

“It’s okay. If it’s not challenging, I wouldn’t feel at ease even if you hired me. I will work hard…”

Ming Bai was thrilled, not afraid of challenges; on the contrary, he enjoyed studying medical theories.

Ming Bai was easy to handle.

But Grandpa Li was a different story.

Not to mention the opportunity to persuade Fang Ziyang, it was difficult for them to even meet.

Grandpa Li was most afraid of meeting strangers. As soon as he saw an unfamiliar younger generation, even though Li Xiao had already informed him in advance, he still suffered from a sudden fear of meeting people.

He didn’t even give Fang Ziyang a chance to speak, and as soon as he saw him, he dashed upstairs like a whirlwind…

So scared, so scared, it’s truly terrifying!

Fang Ziyang:…

It seemed that the situation was beyond his imagination.

Li Xiao shrugged apologetically, “You see, you should give up on my grandfather. He has had this condition for most of his life, and it’s impossible to change. He’s like this when he sees strangers, let alone leaving his hometown.”

Ming Bai also nodded helplessly. If his adoptive father could leave the house, they wouldn’t have been delayed until now.

“Indeed, your grandfather is your grandfather…”

Fang Ziyang forced a smile.

However, he wouldn’t easily give up.

In his previous life, even Yan Tong could persuade Grandpa Li to come out of seclusion. There was no reason why he couldn’t do it, right? After all, he used to be the protagonist with a strong spirit and fortune.

It didn’t matter; Grandpa Li was afraid of him because they were unfamiliar. After living there for a few days, they would definitely be able to have a conversation.

Fang Ziyang had confidence in his perseverance.

After all, there was still a month left in the summer vacation, and he had plenty of time.

That night, Fang Ziyang called Tang Xun in Beijing to report his itinerary and reminded Zhou Jun and Zhao Jingyu in Jiangshi City about the matters of Dongsheng Pharmaceutical.

He was prepared to stay at Li Xiao’s house for a while.

As for Shi Liangchen, Fang Ziyang deliberately stopped involving himself after handing over the check to Li Xiao.

If it wasn’t necessary, he really didn’t want to revisit those unpleasant memories.

And Li Xiao didn’t want to pry into his private affairs, so he didn’t inquire further. On the second day after receiving the check, Li Xiao went to the Shi family under the pretext of buying a program and handed the check to Shi Liangchen.

Five million wasn’t much, but it was definitely enough for Shi Meijing’s surgery expenses.

Shi Liangchen was delighted to receive the check and eagerly asked Li Xiao about the identity of the boss who wanted to buy the program. He was willing to help with the development for free.

However, Li Xiao had been instructed not to reveal it, so he made up an excuse about the boss not being able to appear in person.

To prevent Shi Liangchen from becoming suspicious, Li Xiao also stated that the boss was willing to pay 5 million because of the special circumstance of wanting to help with his sister’s surgery.

After all, with Shi Liangchen’s current level, it was impossible to sell a personally made program for 5 million.

This reason indeed dispelled Shi Liangchen’s doubts, and he believed Li Xiao’s explanation.

Although he was disappointed, Shi Meijing was still very happy when she heard about the check that night. However, she also had some dissatisfaction.

“Although 5 million is enough for the surgery fee, we haven’t found a suitable bone marrow match yet. It’s not that easy to find a suitable bone marrow, even if you have money…”

The underlying meaning was why did this boss help but not help to the end?

People outside thought Shi Meijing was a cheerful, outgoing, and generous girl, but only her family knew that she had a very delicate temper. It was all because her health was poor, and she had been sheltered by her family since she was young.

Shi Liangchen understood the underlying meaning of her words and immediately had a black face.

He knew that his sister had a somewhat delicate and immature temperament, but he didn’t expect her to have such thoughts of resentment and gratitude.

“Meijing, how can you have such thoughts? It’s already good enough that someone is willing to pay a high price for my program. They are not obligated to do more than that. I will definitely help you find a bone marrow match. Don’t think like this in the future.”

“Brother, why are you so harsh on me for just expressing my thoughts? You promised our parents that you would take good care of me, but is this how you’re doing it?”

Being scolded by her brother made Shi Meijing unhappy.

She had already turned 18 years old, yet she was still being scolded by her older brother like when she was a child. Moreover, she hadn’t said anything wrong. There was no need for him to make a fuss over a casual complaint.

“If you hate me so much, just kick me out and don’t bother taking care of me. After all, I’m not your real sister. I’m just a disaster, responsible for the deaths of our parents and your parents, and burdened with this serious illness that requires you to find ways to earn money. I knew you never wanted to take care of me. So just leave me alone, wuwu…”

Shi Meijing was angry and couldn’t help but cry and complain.

Although Shi Liangchen and Shi Meijing were siblings, they were not biologically related.

Her biological parents were friends with Shi Liangchen’s parents, and when they went on a trip together, they had an accident. Her parents died while saving her and Shi Liangchen, so Shi Liangchen’s parents adopted her.

Therefore, Shi Liangchen’s parents treated her better than their own son, and before they passed away, they repeatedly urged their son to take good care of her.

Shi Liangchen did as he was told. After his parents’ death, he took good care of his sister and made every effort to earn money for her surgery when he discovered her serious illness.

Although he loved his sister, he had some opinions and sighed about her pampered personality that her parents had cultivated.

His sister was the kind of person who didn’t have a princess’s fate but had a princess’s attitude.

Shi Liangchen couldn’t bear to see his sister crying, but he couldn’t condone her wrong thoughts. He had to soften his tone and persuade her again.

“Alright, I didn’t mean to blame you. It’s just that your thoughts are misguided. I was a bit harsh in my urgency, but you have to understand that I’m doing this for your own good. If you continue to think this way, you’ll easily offend people when you go out in the future…”

“If you don’t listen to what I say, I’ll halve your monthly allowance.”

Shi Meijing couldn’t care less about the previous words, but when she heard that her allowance would be halved, she immediately became anxious.

How much was her monthly allowance? If it was halved, it would only be enough for her meals, and buying clothes and shoes would be nothing but a dream.

Although she didn’t feel that she was wrong, she had to accept her fate.

Reluctantly, she said, “Brother, I know I was wrong. I will change. I was just anxious. If we don’t find a suitable bone marrow within three years, the doctors said I will die…”

“It won’t happen. Brother will do everything possible. Now that we have money, we should be able to find a matching bone marrow soon.”

Shi Liangchen shook his head and reassured her with a firm tone.

“I hope so.”

Shi Meijing was worried. It concerned her life, and without concrete measures, she had no reassurance.

But she believed that her brother loved her so much that he would save her no matter what.

With that thought, Shi Meijing’s mood improved.

At that moment, their door was knocked.

The siblings stopped their conversation and went to open the door together.

“Who are you…” Shi Liangchen looked at the two young men in extraordinary clothes in front of him with suspicion and caution.

    thank you for the update.

I guess no matter what Shi Liangchen still ties himself with Yan Tong. I hope that this time he will stay away from the Ziyang.

Can’t really do that if he’s under Ya Tong. After all Ya Tong always gets to Fan Ziying whenever he had the chance.

I just hope he finally abandon this princess syndrome sister tbh.
