Getting Along

After the kiss, Su Mu’s eyes shimmered, her face resembling a blush of pink mist. Feeling a bit embarrassed, she buried her face in his chest. Gu Shi composed his breath and gently ran his fingers through her hair, chuckling softly, “Miss Su, are you satisfied?”
Su Mu, feeling bashful, replied with a muffled voice, “Not satisfied.”
His previous bold move had genuinely startled her. It seemed as if he was about to swallow her whole.
Gu Shi’s hand paused for a moment, his voice deepening, “Oh? How about giving me another chance?”
Su Mu attempted to pinch his waist, but found no suitable spot to do so. He might be thin, but his physique was quite good without a trace of excess fat. Her attempts ended up teasing Gu Shi instead, making his breath unstable.
At that moment, she was still sitting on his lap, and Gu Shi sensed her reaction immediately. He breathed a sigh of relief, gently holding her restless hand, and with a deep breath, he suppressed the turmoil in his heart. His lips curved into a slight smile, “Alright, lift your head now; you might get stifled.”
“But you can’t make fun of me!”
“Okay, okay, I won’t, I won’t.”
Gu Shi coaxed her for a while before Su Mu lifted her crimson face, got off his lap, and sat at the side. Luckily, the driver’s side had obstructed views into the car interior, sparing her the embarrassment she would have felt otherwise.
Gu Shi knew she was still feeling shy, so he didn’t bring up the recent incident. Instead, he pointed at the small bowl on the table, “Do you want more to eat?”
“No, thanks.”
“We have fruits and snacks here. What would you like?”
“I don’t want any of those. Gu Shi, I want something cold.” Although the car was air-conditioned, she still felt hot all over and needed something cold to cool down.
Gu Shi didn’t want to give her something cold to drink. He rolled down the window instead. “We’re almost home. Endure it a little longer and enjoy the sea breeze.”
This was a beautiful coastal road with dim streetlights and a strong sea breeze that carried a hint of saltiness. Su Mu’s attention was indeed shifted. Her eyes widened as she tried to catch a glimpse of the scenery outside, but it was already dusk, and she could only vaguely see a few black seabirds hovering over the sea.
The northern climate was indeed much cooler than the south. The wind rushed in through the window, and Su Mu felt like her pores were opening. She ended up leaning against the window, basking in the breeze.
Concerned that she might catch a cold, Gu Shi draped a thin jacket over her. Sensing his actions, Su Mu’s heart felt a trace of sweetness, and she decided to let him take care of her.
With the sea breeze accompanying them, the car slowly entered a luxurious villa. Gu Shi held her hand as they got out of the car and walked straight in.

The driver brought their luggage inside and then left. In this vast villa, there were only the two of them.
“I’ll take the luggage up. Are you hungry? If you are, I can order food.”
Shaking her head, Su Mu replied, “I want to cook myself.”
“Sure, there are ingredients in the fridge. Help yourself.”
After deciding to come here for their vacation, he had instructed the villa’s housekeeper to clean the place and stock up on ingredients. Gu Shi knew that she could be a bit particular about food, so he expected she’d want to cook herself. Now, that plan was being put into action.
Su Mu entered the spacious and bright kitchen, opening the fridge to find a good amount of ingredients. She took out a tomato, an eggplant, and a small handful of greens. Activating her ability, she removed impurities from the vegetables one by one.
Today, Gu Shi had only eaten a light breakfast at home in the morning. He hadn’t eaten much during lunch or in the car recently; she remembered his preference for home-cooked food. That’s why she wanted to cook for him herself.
After removing impurities from the vegetables, they looked as good in quality as those at home. He should like them.
However, when it came to meat, Su Mu couldn’t do much. To avoid altering the texture of the vegetables, she decided not to add meat or seafood, sticking to vegetarian dishes.
With a plan in mind, she rolled up her sleeves and started cooking efficiently.
She made a cross incision on the tomato and blanched it in boiling water for a moment, making it easy to peel. After dicing the prepared tomato, she heated some oil in the pan, cooked the diced tomato until it turned into sauce, added a small amount of water, and, once it boiled, added the cleaned greens. After a quick estimation, she added a pinch of salt and pepper, and then it was ready to serve.
This tomato soup was relatively light, so Su Mu also made a spicy braised eggplant.

Before the rice was ready, she brought the dishes to the dining table and cleaned up the kitchen. After that, she went upstairs.
The doors of two adjacent rooms on the second floor were wide open. Gu Shi was busy in one of them. Su Mu stood at the doorway and didn’t enter, asking, “Is my room next door?”
Gu Shi came out of the room, holding her hand as he led her to the other room. “This room will have a big surprise for you tomorrow.” She was sure to love it.
Su Mu knew that Gu Shi wouldn’t tell her what the surprise was right now, so she decided not to ask.
The room’s decoration and arrangement were simple yet refined, and she truly liked it.
She playfully pushed him out of the room, saying, “I need to organize my stuff, Mr. Gu, please stay out for a moment~”
Gu Shi chuckled, watching as the door closed in front of him. He turned and went back to his room.
Su Mu neatly arranged her toiletries and hung her clothes on hangers in the wardrobe. She walked to the side of the bed, bent down to sniff the sheets, and detected a fresh and delicate fragrance. She could tell they were clean just from the smell.
Of course, with Gu Shi’s meticulousness, he had thought of everything.
Completing these tasks took only a short while. She opened the door and called for Gu Shi to join her in the dining room.
As the two of them descended the stairs, the rice that had been steaming in the kitchen was now ready. Su Mu served two bowls—one with less food, as she had already eaten a bowl of noodles in the car. She wasn’t very hungry at the moment.
Seeing the dishes on the table, Gu Shi knew she had cooked for him. He was deeply touched.
“Thank you, Mu Mu, for cooking for me.”
“If you’re really thankful, then eat a bit more.”
In this warm atmosphere, the two of them had their first meal of the trip.
Since it was already quite late in the evening, they didn’t go out for a leisurely stroll. After finishing dinner, they each returned to their rooms to rest.
Washing off the weariness, perhaps having slept enough on the plane, Su Mu lay on the bed tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. Whenever she closed her eyes, she couldn’t help but recall the kiss they shared in the car. This cycle repeated, and she lost all her sleepiness.
The northern climate was drier, and after a while, she started feeling a bit thirsty.
Getting up, she went downstairs to the kitchen, found a clean glass, and poured herself a glass of lukewarm water. She hadn’t taken a sip yet when she heard a sound behind her, “Mu Mu.”
Su Mu was startled, and the water almost spilled out of the glass.
Patting her rapidly beating heart, she asked, “Why did you walk so quietly?”
Gu Shi looked innocent but didn’t dare to say anything in response.
“Can’t sleep?”
“Mhmm.”
“How about we watch a movie for a while?”
Su Mu was surprised, “There’s a movie theater here?”
“Yes.” Gu Shi led her to the third floor. He had spent some time recuperating here before, so the facilities were quite comprehensive.
On the third floor, there was not only a small movie theater but also a spacious area for sports and fitness. Even on the top floor, there were professional astronomical observation instruments.
“What kind of movie do you want to watch?”
“How about a horror movie?” Su Mu looked around the movie theater. The lighting was dim, and the curtains were fluttering in the sea breeze, creating an atmosphere that suited watching a horror film.
Gu Shi’s movements paused. “Not scared?”
“Not scared!”
Since she said that, Gu Shi had a different kind of playful idea in mind. He selected a quite frightening horror movie and started playing it.
