Ch 129: The Cannon Fodder Won’t Play Along Anymore [QT]

Mu Rongrong walked out of the gates of the Mu family estate and glanced back once.

This was the place she had lived in for decades. She once thought it would be her home for a lifetime, but after leaving for only a few short months, it already looked somewhat unfamiliar.

She thought of the home on Red Moon. The villa wasn’t large, but everything inside had been arranged together as a family.

Most importantly, her family was there.

“Miss.” The butler, who seemed to have just learned of her return, hurried over. “The master asks you to come over.”

“No need.” Mu Rongrong hid the weariness in her eyes. “I’m in a hurry to get home.”

The butler stared in astonishment at her retreating back, feeling that this young lady seemed somehow different.

Neither the butler at the gate nor Mu Rongrong as she left saw the two tiny figures that quietly slipped into the Mu family estate.

If Mu Xing were here, he would have recognized them at once: they were Mai Mai and Mao Mao, who had not been seen for several days.

These two little ones had always clung to him, but then they suddenly disappeared a few days ago. Mu Xing had been worried, until someone in the Mai Mai Park among the Iyas told him that Mai Mai and Mao Mao were in a growth period and were sleeping, needing ten days to half a month before waking.

How could such innocent and pure Iya children possibly lie?

Mu Xing believed it.

But what he didn’t know was that Mai Mai and Mao Mao had overheard Mu Rongrong’s words that day, learning that Xing’s poor health was all because of that bad uncle.

They were furious!

The two little ones snuck onto a starship from Red Moon bound for Ice Blue System. Once they arrived, they asked the plants along the way for directions, stumbling along until they finally reached the Mu estate.

They had come to avenge Xing!

In the study.

Mu Lin sat with a dark expression, staring at the light screen before him.

Just two hours earlier, his vote count had been far ahead of the others. But now, the second and third places had already caught up.

Wherever he looked under related topics, he could see comments like these:

[Push the second and third ahead, come on!]

[Anyone who can drive his own sister’s family to such a harsh, impoverished world like Red Moon, I don’t think he can be a good governor, so I voted for the second.]

[I looked into a lot of Mu family gossip. Xing’s family never interferes in anything, they hardly exist publicly. And yet even that was too much for Mu Lin. His heart is far too narrow.]

[Especially since Xing is so frail. Every time I watch the livestreams, seeing his pale face makes me worry so much.]

[Fortunately Xing had a blessing in disguise, awakening his planting talent on Red Moon.]

[Could it be that Red Moon holds some secret?]

[You’re overthinking it. If it really had something magical, why wasn’t it discovered earlier? And didn’t the Federal Research Institute just visit Red Moon recently? They haven’t found anything useful. What happened with Xing is pure mystery.]

Mu Lin’s face grew uglier as his fury mounted.

Suddenly, at the tip of his nose came the faint fragrance of flowers.

On his desk, a potted epiphyllum kept for decoration seemed to have bloomed.

The strange fragrance spread through the study.

Mu Lin felt a little dizzy, his body weakening as he slumped into his chair. In a daze he thought: is this really the scent of epiphyllum? Does it bloom at this time?

But the flower was quite pretty.

He couldn’t see the two small figures sitting on its green leaves, glaring at him with no kindness at all.

“He’s fainted.”

“Of course, since we came personally.”

“Wait, let me see how this works first…”

Rustling sounds filled his ears, voices as if speaking nearby, though Mu Lin could barely hear.

After a while, someone spoke right by his ear: “Why did you hurt Xing, you big bad guy?”

Instinctively he wanted to deny it, but suddenly a surge of anger welled up inside, forcing him to speak his truest thoughts.

“Father is so biased! If Mu Rongrong gave birth to another healthy, clever child, and he raised that child as heir from the start, then what? One Mu Yue is already enough. I’ll never allow Mu Xing to live strong and healthy!”

“What did you do?”

Mu Lin faintly realized something was wrong, but his mind was clouded, unable to control his body. All he could do was let the truth spill out.

“Of course, he’s my nephew, I wouldn’t kill him. And making Mu Rongrong miscarry would be too obvious. Jinwei could get hold of the Odolon serum — the one once used to treat the Turner virus. I mixed it into the food. I ate it myself too. That thing only affects the fetus in a pregnant woman’s womb…”

Mai Mai’s face flushed with rage.

She flew over and kicked Mu Lin’s face hard, though it didn’t really harm him.

“He’s awful!” Mai Mai shouted.

At last she could speak.

Mao Mao was just as angry, but glancing at the flower, he whispered something to Mai Mai.

The two little ones quickly packed up their belongings, plucked the flower, and ran out of the Mu estate.

As the fragrance faded, Mu Lin’s consciousness sank into chaos, and he fell into a long, bizarre dream.

When he finally woke, he remembered nothing at all.

*

The two little ones returned to Red Moon with excited hearts, rushing to find Mu Xing and boast of their deed.

The result was that Mu Xing, who had always had a good temper and had never been seen angry before, ignored them for an entire week.

Mai Mai and Mao Mao felt so wronged that even the flowers in Mai Mai Park looked wilted these days.

Mu Xing was angry that they acted on their own and even went to a place like the Mu family. Did they not think about how dangerous it would have been if they were discovered?

A week later, he softened first.

Because every morning when he woke up, there would always be a fresh bouquet of the prettiest flowers on the balcony. Occasionally, with a quick glance, he could catch a small head that hadn’t had time to shrink back.

“Don’t ever do this again, so recklessly putting yourselves in danger,” Mu Xing gently tapped the two little ones on their heads.

Mai Mai and Mao Mao nodded quickly, but in their hearts they silently added a condition: as long as no one bullied Xingxing.

Three days before the election results were announced, Mu Xing posted that video on the star network.

Mu Lin personally admitted that he had once drugged his own sister to harm his unborn nephew, who was none other than Mu Xing.

That was like setting off a bomb.

All industries under the Mu family were suddenly boycotted overnight, and their reputation scores on the star network plummeted.

Mu Rongrong immediately stated that she would sue Mu Lin over this matter.

The Mu family quickly contacted Mu Rongrong.

Given the current situation, regardless of the outcome, Mu Lin could no longer remain the head of the Mu family. Public resistance toward him was overwhelming, and all Mu family businesses were dragged down with him.

The best solution now, they thought, was to bring Mu Rongrong’s family back and let them take over the Mu family.

Mu Rongrong only found it laughable. “Back then, when our family was driven out to Red Moon in disguise, none of you objected. And now you’re more eager than anyone else.”

She refused. “Red Moon is just fine. This is my home. Ice Blue Star stopped belonging to me the day I left.”

In the end, Mu Lin lost his position as head of the Mu family and was stripped of all management authority over Mu family industries.

When the media went to interview, what they saw was Mu Lin with his head lowered, being escorted away by the federal court for investigation.

He had admitted to poisoning his sister in the past. If that was confirmed, even harsher punishment awaited him.

Xiao Jinwei and Mu Qingqing wouldn’t have good days either. A family as large as the Mus was the most pragmatic. When a person fell, the tea grew cold. The more glorious they once were, the harder their days would become.

At that point, Mu Xing put the matter behind him and devoted himself wholeheartedly to developing Red Moon.

Unexpectedly, once everything settled and Red Moon continued to flourish, the other three members of the Mu family began saying their goodbyes to him.

Star: ?

Mu Rongrong said, “Now Red Moon should be the safest and most beautiful place in the entire galaxy. Your last health check-up also came back very good. I don’t need to worry about you anymore. So now, I’m going to enrich myself too.”

She planned to travel and study with her husband, leaving Red Moon behind.

“I can’t just live off my thirteen-year-old baby Mu Xing now. I’ve thought it through—only if I master some skills myself will I feel fulfilled.” Mu Rongrong rubbed the top of her son’s head.

Mu Yue also left Red Moon with her drawing board—she managed to reconnect with the master she had once driven away. She was still young, and starting over wasn’t too late.

Mu Xing smiled as he watched them leave. Though it was a parting, everyone’s eyes shone with light and hope.

The future was full of promise.

By the end of the first year, Red Moon’s second park was completed, named Mao Mao Park.

Just like Mai Mai Park, at the entrance stood a life-sized statue with beautiful features, light green skin, and transparent wings.

Mu Xing said it was the fairy from his dream, the very inspiration and reason behind building Red Moon.

Mao Mao Park was planted with vast groves of cherry blossoms and peach blossoms. By the following spring, it was sure to be breathtaking.

By the next March, one-third of Red Moon was covered with green plants, and Mao Mao Park had become a sea of cherry and peach blossoms.

More members of the Iya people, responding to the call of their kin, came to Red Moon.

By the end of the year, Red Moon was renamed Iya Star.
