Ch 44: My Wolf Husband

Lin Shuishi welcomed the final blizzard of the Dongshan New Year while nestled in the warmth of the wolf den.

The cold wind howled, and as he looked down from the mountain ridge, everything appeared gloomy and overcast, with heavy snowfall covering everything in sight. In no time, the entire landscape was blanketed in white.

In such weather, even the wolves avoided patrolling. However, they had already stocked up enough prey in the snow pits near their den to keep the pack well-fed during this extreme weather.

Lin Shuishi woke up within the embrace of a warm chest, but just as he was trying to absorb more of that warmth, he was overwhelmed by the lazy desires of the morning. Unable to withstand the relentless advances, his fragile body attempted to resist, but in the end, the beast mercilessly subdued him.

By noon, the weather had warmed slightly, though snow continued to fall. Lin Shuishi, frustrated, pinched Fuli several times before struggling to get up. He had things to do today, and it was all Fuli’s fault for delaying him!

Fuli didn’t argue; he was in a good mood and reclined against the wall, watching his mate busily move about like the plump squirrel next to the treehouse—always scurrying around with little paws full of dried fruits, bustling in and out of the nest.

But Lin Shuishi wasn’t gathering food; he was organizing the household items the wolf pack had “moved” for him. There were so many random items—everything from kitchen knives and bowls to the heavy bow that had belonged to his father, now with a tuft of white fur caught in the bowstring from some unfortunate wolf.

After organizing for a while, he still wasn’t satisfied with how everything was arranged. Lin Shuishi frowned and thought for a moment before picking up a small iron pickaxe and trying to chip away at the sturdy walls of the wolf den.

Fuli found it amusing to watch Lin Shuishi, who was determinedly trying to chip away at the wall. He walked over, wrapping an arm around Lin Shuishi’s waist and lifting him up effortlessly.

The walls of the wolf den were too solid, and Lin Shuishi’s hands ached from the effort, but he hadn’t made much progress. Seeing Fuli approach, he thought it was perfect timing! Fuli had plenty of energy to spare and wasn’t hunting or patrolling today—just staring at him with those green eyes. Lin Shuishi couldn’t take it anymore!

So, when the wolf king dragged a frozen sheep leg to his brother’s den, he heard the loud banging noises coming from the top of the slope. The wolf king was shocked—was it that intense?

He was about to discreetly leave when he saw Lin Shuishi peeking out of the den entrance with a radiant smile, waving him over.

“???” The wolf king’s worldview was shaken, but he couldn’t help but walk over. When he reached the entrance, he finally saw the imposing leader of the pack squatting on the ground, vigorously chiseling at the walls.

Lin Shuishi and the wolf king were already quite familiar with each other. The tall white wolf often went down to guard the back slope, occasionally sending his subordinates to patrol the front of the house. The implication was clear: the wolves were around, so it wouldn’t hurt to share some roasted eggs and braised snacks—the wolves had already caught the scent!

From the days of leaving food at a distance, Lin Shuishi now beckoned the wolf king over, took the sheep leg from his mouth, and naturally handed him a roasted egg in return.

The wolf king instinctively chewed on the egg, then let out a “grumbling” sound, calling for the wolf queen to come in and help. His wife was excellent at digging!

Fuli shot a sideways glance at his brother, who had managed to get egg yolk on his nose, and declined his offer.

Meanwhile, Lin Shuishi had already started carving marks on the wall with a bone knife. He was planning an additional side room with neatly arranged storage compartments and insisted that Fuli carve exactly according to the lines he had drawn—otherwise, Fuli wouldn’t be allowed to cuddle him at night!

Fuli narrowed his eyes and stared at Lin Shuishi for a while before giving his small butt a firm squeeze and turning back into the den. Instead of using an axe and chisel, he extended his beastly claws, which were pitch-black and as hard as blades. With a powerful strike, the tough red clay walls crumbled away.

Lin Shuishi watched in amazement! He quickly went inside to gather the furs and tools from the ground to avoid them getting dusty. Then, wrapping himself in a thick bear hide, he braved the wind and snow to set up the stove on the flat ground outside.

The snowstorm was so fierce that even the wolf den, which usually remained clear, had accumulated a thick layer of snow. Looking into the den, the only thing visible was the tranquil hot spring, still gently steaming, while everything else was shrouded in the swirling snow.

He could clearly see the large paw prints left by the wolf king, leading from the icy pit in the distant forest all the way to where he stood, and then extending to the wolf king’s den.

Inside the den, the wolf pups snuggled up to their mother, blinking their curious eyes as they quietly observed the ever-changing world.

The forest and grasslands were incredibly quiet. The silvery snowflakes reflected the occasional sunlight breaking through the clouds, creating a rainbow of colors before gently settling on the mountains and treetops.

Taking in the scenery, Lin Shuishi took a deep breath. This was the purest place on earth, the most pristine and untouched sanctuary. The air was crisp and clean. He scooped up a handful of snow, melted it into the soup pot over the stove, boiled it, cooled it down, and took a sip—it was wonderfully sweet.

Lin Shuishi cooked a pot of chestnut porridge and roasted some potatoes and eggs. The warm, fragrant smell quickly lured the wolf pups out of their den, led by the little white wolf. Despite the cold, they all eagerly crawled out.

The snow was too deep, so the little ones lined up in a row, with the sturdy little white wolf leading the way. It leaped forward and dove headfirst into the soft snow, burying itself completely except for the tuft of fur on its head.

Standing by the stove, Lin Shuishi watched as the little white wolf struggled towards him, followed by a line of its siblings burrowing through the snow like a bunch of little groundhogs.

The little wolves squirmed their way to Lin Shuishi, shook off the snow from their fur, and huddled around the stove, squinting their eyes against the cold wind. One even lifted its paw to warm its cold pink pads.

Lin Shuishi chuckled, added more firewood, and pulled a large wool blanket around the little ones, shielding them from the cold wind while they faced the warmth of the fire. Their soft fur glowed warmly under the orange flames of the stove.

Fuli was still working on expanding the living space, so Lin Shuishi, with nothing much to do, squatted by the fire wrapped in bear fur. He cracked open a large roasted egg, breaking it into pieces, and fed each piece to the little wolves, who whimpered softly. After finishing their meal, they licked his egg-flavored fingers contentedly.

Unlike the wolf pack, Fuli couldn’t eat much cooked food, though he seemed to enjoy it. He only ate raw meat, so Lin Shuishi took the frozen leg of lamb brought by the wolf king, cut it into pieces, and soaked them in warm water to thaw before calling Fuli to eat.

“Fuli, take a break and come eat!”

Covered in dirt, Fuli emerged from the den and shook it off vigorously before silently sitting by the stove. He took the thawed and sliced lamb that Lin Shuishi handed him and ate it quietly.

Lin Shuishi wrung out a warm towel and wiped Fuli’s face. Fuli, like the wolf pups, sat on the ground, his face illuminated by the firelight as he looked up at the gentle “female.” While wiping his brows, Lin Shuishi couldn’t resist leaning down to give him a kiss, but the man on the ground pushed his luck, reaching out to pull him closer.

Lin Shuishi quickly pushed him away, laughing, “Haha, I only kiss clean spots. Now, get away!”

But Fuli understood, and with a slight smirk, he grabbed the mischievous little thing and swiftly jumped into the clear blue hot spring nestled between the mountain ridges.

With a splash, both of them were drenched. Fuli dunked himself into the spring, washing off all the dirt. When he resurfaced, steam rose from his body, and his powerful, muscular frame loomed over Lin Shuishi.

Water droplets clung to his heaving chest, dripping slowly down as his golden eyes gleamed with a dangerous, feral light. He caught Lin Shuishi’s delicate hand, determined to show this little female that now, he was completely clean…

Meanwhile, below the wolf den, the fire in the stove blazed fiercely, reducing the wood to ashes. At the center of the flames, a faint glow lingered, just enough to keep it alive, ready to ignite with renewed vigor for the next intense burn.

The little wolves, having eaten their fill, nestled in the fur and warmed themselves by the fire before falling into a deep sleep. Once the fire died out, they were gently awakened by the queen mother wolf. The path that Little White Wolf had struggled to clear earlier had already been completely covered by the fresh snow. So, the little wolves followed their mother, stumbling and rolling as they stepped into her giant paw prints, making their way back to the warmth of the wolf den to continue their carefree, playful lives.

The next day, the “renovation” project was finally completed. Lin Shuishi looked at the newly expanded side room and the neatly carved wall shelves and storage cabinets, feeling very satisfied. The physical pain he endured was worth it!

He carefully organized everything, laid down extra animal skins as rugs, and secured some to the walls with wooden pegs. This made the den much cleaner and less dusty.

The mountain was finally sealed off by a heavy snowstorm that came to an end. Fuli led the wolf pack down the mountain. They had to be cautious of the potential for avalanches, patrol Dongshan to ensure no intruders had entered, and, after days of suspended hunting, they needed fresh meat and prey.

Lin Shuishi had gradually adapted to life among the wolves. In this primitive and resource-scarce ancient world, the difference between a mountain village and a wolf den wasn’t all that significant—only the neighbors had changed.

He had many seeds, ready to be planted in the nearby woods when spring arrived. He also had the gray geese that were growing, waiting to mature so he could enjoy a steady supply of eggs.

Speaking of those little creatures, on the day it snowed, Lin Shuishi had rushed out to check on them, fearing they might freeze to death. But when he reached the hidden grassy area he had fenced off, he was stunned. A large white goose had appeared in the nest, surrounding the pitiful little chicks and even regurgitating food to feed them.

Lin Shuishi didn’t know that this type of goose lived in the wintery forests and loved to occupy the nests of other birds. After laying its own eggs, it would raise the original chicks along with its own. He initially thought this was a maternal act from a bird of the same species, only to later realize that it was a male goose with a rather unique disposition.

As time passed, Lin Shuishi’s range of activities gradually expanded. He continued to explore the forested area around the wolf den, becoming more familiar with the environment and its inhabitants.

Initially, when he was sacrificed to this mysterious and majestic mountain, he had cowered in one place, clinging to survival. But now, this place had become his home. He was sheltered by the mountains and surrounded by all the wild creatures.
