Ch 52: Daily Farm Life After Returning from Interstellar

Confession

A three-session tribunal was definitely not happening. Grandpa Gu and Father Gu primarily wanted to understand their grandson/son’s daily life during this period – if it matched what he had told them, if he was sleeping and eating well.

Additionally, they were curious about the temperament of the girl he liked.

Speaking of Su Mu, Gu Shi still felt a bit shy. She was the first girl he had liked in all his twenty-five years. Just thinking about her made his heart race.

“Huayuan Village has a good environment, and I’ve been doing well there. Uncle and Aunt Su are good to me.”

Grandpa Gu wasn’t satisfied with his grandson changing the topic. He knocked the floor heavily with his cane and said, “What else? How’s that girl?”

Seeing that he couldn’t evade the question, Gu Shi could only respond obediently, “She’s doing well too.”

“What about the progress between you two? Have you established a relationship?”

“Not yet. How can things progress so quickly? We’ve only known each other for a little over two months.”

Father Gu gave his younger son a stern look and snorted, “What’s the big deal about two months? Your mother and I got married a month after meeting and had your older brother six months later.”

“My situation is different from yours.”

Gu Shi’s eyes shifted toward his elder brother, seeking rescue. Unfortunately, Gu Yan was afraid of irritating the two seniors, so he dared not raise any objections.

“What’s different about it? When two people have a connection, that’s all that matters.”

Father Gu, a military man, had straightforward thinking and detested those who beat around the bush. He inwardly looked down on his son; it seemed he hadn’t learned anything from him.

Grandpa Gu intervened before things got out of hand, fearing that his grandson, who had finally developed feelings, might become resentful.

“Alright, alright, there’s a time for everything.”

He turned his head to Gu Shi and said, “Regardless, don’t treat your emotions lightly. If you hurt that girl’s heart, I won’t spare you.”

Gu Shi earnestly replied, “I understand.”

Having discussed his lifelong matter, the three of them turned their curiosity towards Huayuan Village. The village’s produce was exceptionally delicious and nutritious, and they wondered how such a picturesque and fertile place had come into existence.

“It’s indeed a great place for recuperation; everything there is excellent. Grandpa, after some time, you and Grandma can come with me. I’ve built a small courtyard in the village, and there’s a place to stay.”

Father Gu glared at him, “I’m still here; it’s not your turn to take care of me.”

Grandpa Gu raised his cane and tapped it on his son, glaring at him. “What’s wrong with me enjoying my grandson’s company?”

Father Gu immediately backtracked, chuckling, “I’m just worried about the medical conditions over there. Besides, we were born and raised here. Can we adapt to the climate and food over there?”

Grandpa Gu had suffered injuries in his youth, and now that he was getting older, the aftereffects were showing. He would feel uncomfortable for a while after being exposed to heat or cold. He definitely wouldn’t let him go to the distant South.

Father Gu gave a secretive glare to his younger son, who was randomly suggesting things. Always coming up with foolish ideas.

Gu Shi naturally noticed his father’s expression. He knew that suggesting this idea would surely meet resistance, but Huayuan Village truly was a great place for leisure and retirement. If Grandpa and Grandma could live there for a while, it would certainly be beneficial.

“You can bring Li Sao over too.” Li Sao was the head chef in their family, having worked for the Gu family for decades. Her culinary skills were naturally excellent.

“Grandpa, think about the vegetables and fruits that were sent over some days ago. You can still pick wild vegetables, go fishing; even Brother He’s sanatorium has been built in the village, so there’s no need to worry about medical care.”

He brought out the big guns, “Don’t you want to help me check out that girl, give your insights?”

Grandpa Gu happily accepted his grandson’s filial concern, “Then I’ll consider it?”

“Father!” Father Gu exclaimed in disbelief.

Grandpa Gu said, “I haven’t agreed yet, right? Why are you making a fuss?”

The conversation ended here.

After returning to his room, Gu Shi realized that Su Mu had sent him a message. He quickly replied, “Not yet, just had a chat with my family.”

He glanced at the time; it was already past ten in the evening. She should be resting now.

Unexpectedly, Su Mu wasn’t asleep at the moment; she quickly responded to his message.

“So, that’s what it is. I thought I was bothering you.”

Gu Shi chuckled and dialed her number directly.

When the ringing started, Su Mu almost threw her phone away. Her heart raced a bit.

“Hello?”

Gu Shi’s pleasant voice came through, “you weren’t bothering me.”

In that instant, a little firework went off in Su Mu’s heart – pop, pop, pop, one after another, in all sorts of colors.

“Well, did you call just to say that?”

“More than that …” Gu Shi hesitated a bit.

“More than what? What else do you want to say? I’m listening. Are you worried about the ventilation in your new house? Don’t worry, I’ve placed a few potted plants inside, and the windows… What did you say?” Su Mu widened her eyes, seemingly unable to believe what she was hearing.

Gu Shi was annoyed; he knew he would startle her, but since he had come this far, he still wanted to finish what he had to say.

“Let’s be together! I know we haven’t known each other for long, and we still don’t understand each other well. I had some reservations before, ignoring your kindness towards me. But now I’ve realized that I like you. So, are you willing to be with me?”

He anxiously awaited her answer, taking the initiative this time since she had initiated so many times before.

Her dream was coming true too quickly, and Su Mu was left dumbfounded.

After a while, she murmured, “Am I dreaming?”

Gu Shi chuckled lightly, “Of course not.”

Su Mu snapped back, “Can you… Can you tell me this again when you come back? Then I’ll give you my answer. Is that okay?”

“Okay.”

Perhaps it was the beauty of the night, or maybe it was the excitement of clarity in their hearts, but both of them, separated by thousands of miles, couldn’t sleep that night.

Early the next morning, Su Mu had a pair of panda eyes. With her fair skin, the dark circles beneath her eyes were very noticeable.

Mother Su asked in worry, “Mu Mu, didn’t you sleep well last night?”

“Yeah, I received good news, so I couldn’t sleep.” She was still in a daze. Did Gu Shi really confess to her last night?

Su Chen, who had just returned, glanced at her and said, “It must be really big news.” After all, she hadn’t lost any sleep when she earned ninety million last time. The news from last night must be very important to her.

“Indeed, I’ll tell you all in a few days.”

Despite not having slept well last night, her spirits were high. She hummed a tune as she went to the kitchen to find something for breakfast.

Today was the Dragon Boat Festival, and every household was preparing various meats. The village was filled with the aroma of cooking.

It was said that the county town would be even livelier, with dragon boat races and all. Su Mu planned to go and take a look.

They had discussed it yesterday. Her parents were going with her, while Su Chen and his wife would stay at home to watch over things. The county town would be crowded during the holidays, and especially since her sister-in-law was pregnant, it wasn’t suitable for her to be in such crowded places.

Su Mu drove, taking her parents to the county town.

Speaking of her car, after she bought it, it mostly gathered dust in the garage except for the occasional trips to the county for groceries. Still, having a car was quite convenient. Within just a few minutes, they arrived.

The county town was bustling with people and cars. Parking spots were hard to come by. After driving around for a few minutes, Su Mu still couldn’t find an empty parking spot.

Father Su thought of their relatives in the county. Their relatives’ front yard was spacious, which would be a suitable place to park. However, it was a holiday, and it wouldn’t be right to show up empty-handed.

“What should we do? We can’t park on the side of the road, right?”

Su Mu responded, “Of course, we can’t park on the side of the road. We’ll get fined. Let me figure something out.”
